Staying Disciplined while working from home is a challenge

Working from home seems like a dream at first because you don't have to struggle waking up at 6 am for work, you can stay at home all day and your bed and the kitchen are always a step away and you know that no one is there to monitor your every movement. However after some time you come to realize that working from home has its own challenge and that challenge is discipline.

The kind of discipline you have when working from home is entirely different to that of an office because an office will have a routine structure and a constant form of supervision to keep you grounded whereas when working from home, you are entirely on your own. No one is there to remind you or question you for your actions and this is where problems usually arise.

The discipline of simply telling yourself that you will not get out of your chair until the current task has been completed can be the toughest thing to enforce. Often the temptation of simply 'lying down for a while' becomes too great and before you know it an hour has passed or you decide to simply walk into the kitchen and grab something to eat and before you know it you have been in the kitchen for much longer than you anticipated and eventually, you have started postponing the work that needs to be done.

The truth is that Working from home can either be a blessing or a curse and this is completely dependent on the level of discipline you have to work on your time as even with your work, structure and the discipline that follows helps. The main aspect is to always have an idea of what needs to be done at a particular time; this helps you maintain focus and know your objectives clearly.

When working from home you need to hold yourself accountable even if there is no one to answer to which is quite different when in an office. Over all I know that being disciplined when working from home isn't an automatic process as much as some people may think it is.
