Recovery week

IMG_0462.jpeg

While I am not the biggest advocate of no activity during recovery, I had to dail back everything on Thursday, Friday and Saterday. This was caused by a hard fall with my bike last Thursday, as I had to choose between being getting hit by a car (+/- 60 km/h) or diving towards the ground. The driver just didn’t see me at first on an entrance lane to the highway with an unclear intersection with the bicycle path.

I opted for the ground and I was happy with my pick as my bike is going to need some repair while I am oke aside from some black and blue spots on my hands, ankle, shin and knee. Could had been worse so I am mostly gratefull for this outcome! Also the timing could had been much worse if it had been last week, as that would had caused trouble with my last marathon. So yeah, bad luck but won’t bring me down

Today I decided to test if the deeper tissue was also oke. So a short trail on the Dutch coast line!

The run was pretty fun! The temperature not so much - while it was still around 1C the coast wind made it feel much colder. As I am on a short trip with my family I could explore a new coast line which is always fun!

Injury wise, the run was what I expected after such a fall on the asphalt, some stiffness and some pains but nothing too bad. So I expect that staying (carefully) active will be the best move!

Happy running

Glad you’re okay, but that intersection sounds like a death trap.

Glad you chose the asphalt over the sure death of the car. Drivers aren't aware enough of cyclists, and makes it vey dangerous. I stopped cycling on roads for that reason years ago! It looks like a beautiful place for a run,5 km of beaches and dunes, add in a little countryside. Amazing scenery! I'm glad you're OK, just be careful out there. The world is a dangerous place as you and I know all too well!

How is the family doing?

Thanks man! Yeah it was quite a scare. Glad it turned out oke!

Family is doing good! Having some fun together with the snow that fell right after my run. Enough to make a big snowman! Fun times

Definitely the ground is no match with a car... People drive too distracted nowadays, how could he not see you? Gladly nothing too serious happened

Yikes, I'm glad that you're OK! I had a very similar thing happen to me one day when I was riding my bike to work one time when I lived in Tempe, Arizona. I was riding down the sidewalk, when a car pulled up right in front of me. I had the instant decision to either hit the car, or slam on my brakes and go flying off my bike onto the sidewalk. Thankfully I rolled well, and I wasn't hurt at all. May your healing continue well, my friend. 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
