Cars, Trucks, Boats and Destruction!
My wife and I bought tickets to the local speedway for a night out with our oldest son. It's a fun way to spend an evening, provided you can get a decent spot with some shade.
My son loved watching the different cars and races. He even made a friend. He and the lady in front of us discussed which car they guessed would be the winner of each race. If their original car ended up dropping out of the race, they quickly picked another car instead.
Once all of the races concluded, the event everyone looked forward to started. Demolition Derby! Each team chose a car, van, RV or truck to drive. Behind each vehicle, a boat was attached. The goal of the event was to race around the track while knocking the boats loose from other drivers' vehicles. The last vehicle left with a boat still attached would be declared the winner!
It wasn't long before boats and vehicles were strewn all over the track. It was hilarious chaos at its finest!
To add to the chaos, the spray painted van in the picture was considered the "lead" vehicle that everyone had to stop. The race would keep going until the other vehicles trapped it so it couldn't move anymore.
The whole time everyone was trying to stop the van, there were two people in the back dumping water, detergent and flour onto the track. It was hilarious watching vehicles spin out as they tried to take the turns. Some of the drivers drove through the center grassy area and were able to get most of the gunk off their tires. They then circled around and managed to finally trap the van.
It was a great day of racing, and wonderful evening full of laughter for everyone. If you see an opportunity in your area to go to one of these events, don't miss it! You'll have a lot of fun!
