Golden Brown what a sound
Hello hello silver bloggers, music lovers and Hello hivers!
One of my favourite days because it means a post on Hive will be written by me, and I get to hear other music that Hivers and Hiveians enjoy. Well for the select band that participate in ttt anyway!

We are going back to my Silver Chronicles post of a few weeks ago My Soundtrack for the 80s my favourite decade
Quite a self-explanatory title and it is my inspiration for the next few posts on ttt!
The year is now 1982 and we are diving into a band that unfortunately ceased to be in that year!...
3 tunes from 1982 by The Stranglers.
It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!
@ablaze started #ttt 264 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his latest post Counting Crows for Three Tune Tuesday - Week 263 - win some HBI
Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the SIX sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!
He has just released some winners posts, so go support those posts, he gets no support from any whales or even curation trails for these posts that he does. 262 weeks is an incredible amount of time, and I for one love that he runs this, and I appreciate the time and dedication that he puts in, when he could be doing something else.
Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday

The Band - The Stranglers
For this week’s ttt, we are jumping into the fluffing time machine and going back to 1982.
The Stranglers were formed in Guildford down the South of England in 1974. They were one of those bands that you did not know where to put them lol.
Though they emerged right at the epicenter of the UK punk explosion, being popular with the likes of the Sex Pistols and The Clash, they didn't truly fit the "punk" mould. They were older and way more accomplished musicians.
Then throw in Dave Greenfield’s swirling, psychedelic, prog-rock-tinged keyboards, the bass style of Jean-Jacques Burnel, the gritty guitar and vocals of Hugh Cornwell, and the steady driving beat of Jet Black, and you had a fluffing band that had an amazing 23 UK Top 40 singles and 19 Top 40 albums during the late '70s and '80s,
They were famous for their notoriously confrontational attitude with the music press and proved that you could keep your rebellious edge while completely rewriting your musical identity.
Here are three incredible tunes they gave us in that unforgettable year of 1982.
Here are three awesome tunes from Dexys during that magical 1982 run.

Tune 1 - The Stranglers - Golden Brown
Released: 11 January 1982 (UK)
Album: La Folie (Released late 1981, but the single drove 1982)
Problem their most recognisable song and biggest earworm going!
The ultimate masterpiece of the band's career. Built around an instantly recognisable, intricate harpsichord melody played by Dave Greenfield, the song is famously written in an unconventional, shifting time signature (alternating bars of 3/4 and 4/4 time).
EMI executives initially hated the track, claiming it was completely un-danceable and would ruin the band. The Stranglers had to fight tooth and nail to get it released as a single. The band proved the label completely wrong when the track sailed straight to Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, kept off the top spot only by The Jam's "Town Called Malice". It remains their highest-charting and most enduring hit.
You might be thinking that The Jam's "Town Called Malice" is a bit familiar. Well if you read my music posts then yes it is fluffing familiar as it was the lead song of my ttt from last week! The Jam and the end of an era

Tune 2 - The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl
Released: July 1982
Album: The Collection 1977–1982
This track comes with a brilliant bit of rock 'n' roll irony. To wrap up their contract with EMI, The Stranglers released a compilation album and delivered "Strange Little Girl" as their final required single.
What the record label didn't realise was that the song was actually an old demo the band had submitted to EMI all the way back in 1974. This was before they were famous, and EMI had rejected it back then for lacking commercial potential!
What the fluff do these fluffers really know!
Re-recorded with a beautiful and clean melodic bassline with a hauntingly smooth vocal delivery, it became a massive success and peaked at Number 7 on the UK Singles Chart in the summer of 1982.

Tune 3 - The Stranglers - European Female (In Celebration Of)
Released: 16 December 1982 (UK)
Album: Feline (Released January 1983, but this lead single hit the airwaves in late '82)
Changing genres time! This was the perfect bridge into their next musical era.
European Female dropped right at the tail end of 1982 to tease their upcoming acoustic-and-electronic heavy album, Feline.
Moving entirely away from the snarling punk energy of the late '70s, "European Female" features a lush landscape of acoustic guitars, subtle synthesizers, and JJ Burnel’s signature driving bass, which was mixed much softer and warmer here.
The song was a commercial hit and climbed into the UK Top 10 in early January 1983 and cementing their status as innovators of the new wave era.

So there you have it, 3 songs released in 1982 from The Stranglers this week with my 80s Soundtrack post as the inspiration!
Which was your favourite tune? Or have you never heard of them?

Note: The 3 YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.
I wish that you all have a brilliant happy fun and terrific Tuesday until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎶🎵🎶
Thanks for visiting!
The images and ramblings are from me, with some assistance from gemini on the verbage and the lead image, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated.

i only remember golden brown from these 3 , not sure if any of the other songs ever made it to the Dutch top 40
No more Heroes , Skin Deep you might have heard of ?
googled them both only skin deep slightly rings a bell
Skin Deep is later so that might be the one you might have heard
Hey Ed! Scotland had them a good opener for the World Cup,
Hi Joe, well they scraped a win, but will be lucky to qualify as they only scored a goal difference of +1. How is it being shown over there, much interest in it. You guys got off to a great start!
You got a tough group with Brazil and Morocco. There is more interest than in the past. Due to ticket costs though stadiums aren't filling up. I've been watching most games on TV. Watched an awesome one yesterday with underdog Cape Verde drawing against juggernaut Spain. Looking forward to our game against Australia on Friday.
We were living in Spain when they won the World Cup and the European Championships, it was madness lol!
I haven't watched any as the rules are such a farce now, that I don't enjoy it. It's not the game I grew up playing and watching lol. I read the reports though and yes that goalie is 40 I think and kept them at bay. There will be shocks galore I am sure!
Yeah, they have changed some of the rules up. I do like some of the changes becuase it speeds up the game. Especially like that they have cracked down on the simulation and diving stuff.
Yeah simulation I would give them ten game bans lol. My day men were men and you went in hard on people. Now you get booked for just looking at someone. Yeah cheating and diving is out of order!
I like good solid tackles myself. Nothing to purposefully hurt people, but make them know you're there haha.
1982 was a busy year - cultivating a career, haggling over a house, and working out a wedding. But there was always time to stop and listen to the Stranglers. Lots of great music around but I always remember the Stranglers as just that - a band to stop and listen to. Thank you for the memories. Especially, Golden Brown.
!BBH
Now that was a busy year! I am more inclined to remember it for the World Cup in Spain, as Northern Ireland had qualified for it!
Yeah the Stranglers, too right, they were a stop and listen band..
Yea, that familiar intro of the Golden Brown. I definitely heard that being played at home back then haha. No 2 sounds really familiar too. As for no 3, not sure if I ever heard it. But the vibes of this songs are like a songs playes on Sunday with the old but gold kind of music. I love it..old music really is beautiful. I've lots of fav, I have playlist just for that hehe. Thanks to my oldies I get to listen to them and now it became my fav too.
Yeah Golden Brown was huge, ironic as it is about Heroin and love and the pleasurable experiences you get from both hehe!
Number 3 I doubt you would have heard but you never know! Oh yes I often chuckle when I hear you mentioning the oldies and their music! Now I am curious to know what is on that playlist 🤣
Progressive rock has always been a bit hard for me to wrap my head around. I am not sure why either since I really like jazz which I feel kind of fits the same mold.
Jazz there are so many types, there was a jazz concert with three bands on here recently. I thought jazz was jazz but Mrs T being a fan of jazz enlightened to the different types.
Oh yes, I have been listening to a Jazz podcast lately on the treadmill and it has been so interesting.
Podcasts rock and a great listen when you exercise!
Those songs are 43 years old like me cause I was born on 1982. Oldies but goodies songs.
Hehe a good year then!
Nice. I've heard of The Stranglers' 'No More Heroes,' too. These songs are nice to play on a Sunday morning while doing chores—and then I remember I work on Sundays. Cries 😭
Yeah, one of my favorites! 👍🎶
R.I.P. Dave Greenfield and Jet Black
I liked "Strange Little Girl," but I hated Golden Brown. It's insane. Although I did like the video. It reminded me of a silent film. World Cup hug for you!
More stranglers, sweet! Some more great tunes! It's been years since I listened to them!
How have you been doing Ed?
