The Last Bastion Willing to Fall for Victory

Hello, Splinterlands warriors!

There’s one lesson I keep learning every time I play Splinterlands: not every hero is the one dealing the biggest damage. Sometimes, the true hero is the one standing silently on the front line, absorbing every blow until they finally fall without a single complaint. That’s exactly how I feel whenever I use Bera Dallin.

The first time I looked at this card, my impression was simple: "This isn't an ordinary tank." With a hefty 11 mana cost, expectations naturally run high. Thankfully, Bera Dallin delivers. As a Life monster, it was clearly designed to be the cornerstone of any team's frontline.

At its maximum level, Bera Dallin boasts 7 Armor, 14 Health, and 4 Speed—stats that easily justify calling it one of the finest defenders in Splinterlands. Even at level one, it comes equipped with two crucial abilities: Taunt and Armored Strike. As it levels up, it gains Shield and Void Armor, making it incredibly difficult to bring down regardless of the type of attack.

The ability that impressed me the most is undoubtedly Taunt.

This ability forces nearly every enemy attack to target Bera Dallin. At first, I actually thought this sounded dangerous. Wouldn't every opponent simply gang up on it? But after playing more matches, I realized that's exactly where its brilliance lies. When every enemy is focused on a single monster, the rest of your team is free to do their jobs uninterrupted.

Your healer can keep restoring health.

Your damage dealers can attack safely.

Your support monsters can perform their roles without pressure.

Bera Dallin reminds me of a royal guardian. It knows it will be the first target, but protecting everyone else is exactly what it was created to do.

Then there's Shield, an ability that cuts melee and ranged damage in half. Combined with Taunt, the results are outstanding. Every physical attack becomes far less threatening. I've watched opponents field multiple melee attackers, only to see Bera Dallin remain standing several rounds longer than they expected.

Another favorite ability of mine is Void Armor. Normally, magic attacks ignore armor entirely and strike health directly. With Void Armor, however, magic damage must first chew through the armor before reaching health. Since Bera Dallin already has an enormous armor pool, this ability allows it to withstand melee, ranged, and magic attacks alike.

Meanwhile, Armored Strike provides a nice offensive bonus. As long as it still has armor remaining, Bera Dallin gains additional melee damage based on its armor. Personally, I don't consider this its primary source of damage because Taunt causes its armor to wear down fairly quickly. Still, that extra punch often catches opponents off guard while they're too focused on bringing it down.

I had the chance to use Bera Dallin in a battle that I still remember vividly.

My strategy was actually quite simple. I wanted Bera Dallin to serve as a living shield so the monsters behind it could operate without constant pressure. Sure enough, the moment the battle began, every enemy attack was directed straight at it.

A relentless barrage of attacks poured in.

Yet Bera Dallin refused to fall.

Its massive armor, Shield, and Void Armor transformed it into a stone wall that seemed almost impossible to break. Meanwhile, one by one, my monsters behind the frontline dismantled the opposing formation.

The ending of that battle is what really made me smile.

We won.

But Bera Dallin fell on the battlefield.

Because I was playing Survival Mode, the consequence was significant. It had to rest and couldn't be used again immediately. It felt a little bittersweet seeing the monster that secured our victory forced to sit out the next match. Then again, isn't that the very definition of a protector? It sacrifices itself so the rest of the team can survive.

To me, Bera Dallin also represents how Splinterlands' card design has evolved over the years. I used to choose tanks based almost entirely on high Health. Now I've come to appreciate that the right combination of abilities matters far more than raw numbers.

Taunt controls where enemy attacks go.

Shield dramatically extends survivability.

Void Armor removes its vulnerability to magic.

Armored Strike adds offensive pressure whenever possible.

Together, these abilities create a remarkably complete defensive package.

If I eventually manage to max out my Bera Dallin, I'm confident it will become one of my go-to cards in high-mana battles. Pair it with Tank Heal, Repair, or even Resurrect, and its durability becomes truly terrifying.

Overall, my impression of Bera Dallin is overwhelmingly positive. There may be newer tanks with flashier mechanics, but I don't think Bera Dallin has lost its place in the meta. In fact, in an era where so many players rely on Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity strategies to attack the backline, its Taunt ability feels more valuable than ever. And if it ultimately has to fall so the team can claim victory, I can't think of a more honorable ending for a guardian standing on the front line. 😄
