Surviving the Poison, Winning at the Last Breath
![]()
Hello Splinterlands warriors,
sometimes the arena feels like life: the strongest doesn’t always win, but the one who endures the longest survives. And in this battle, I truly felt that.
The fight I’m discussing this time uses two rulesets that, honestly, can make you frown a bit:
- Noxious Fumes → all monsters are poisoned every round
- Junior Varsity → only monsters and archons with 6 mana or less can be used
What does that mean?
No expensive, bulky tanks. No big monsters you usually rely on. Everything is forced to “live simply”—and slowly die from poison.
That’s when one name immediately came to mind: Ujurak Brave.

Ujurak Brave isn’t flashy at first glance. But once you understand how to use him, he’s like a patient chess player—quiet, but decisive.
His abilities:
- Immunity → immune to poison (this is key in Noxious Fumes)
- Silence → reduces enemy magic attack
In a battle dominated by magic and constant poison, he’s like the only one who doesn’t panic.

Formation: Hiding the Ace Card
I didn’t place Ujurak in the front. Instead, I kept him in the middle—like a secret that shouldn’t be revealed too soon.
My lineup looked roughly like this:
- Chaos Animator in front (with Void to withstand magic)
- Halfling Refugee as support with Heal
- Several low-mana monsters for early survival
- And Ujurak Brave positioned in the middle… waiting for everyone else to fall
The strategy was simple:
let the others “go down first,” and let Ujurak finish the story.
Interestingly, my opponent used a similar setup:
- They had Ujurak Brave
- Arachne Weaver for healing
- Even Lenore Nevermore with fairly high HP
But there was one thing they forgot… Void.

In a magic-heavy battle like this, not having Void is like walking in the rain without an umbrella. You will get soaked.
I also brought an archon that reduces 2 HP from enemies.
And somehow, that choice felt just right:
- The opponent’s Ujurak Brave got cut down
- Arachne Weaver was affected too
This small difference turned into a big advantage in the end.
Round after round went by.
One by one, monsters fell—not from attacks, but from poison.
And that’s where the real drama began.
As everything started to collapse, only a few remained.

And just as I planned…
my Ujurak Brave was still standing.
No poison.
Silence still active.
And the opponent? Slowly fading from poison they couldn’t avoid.
At that point, I didn’t need to attack aggressively.
Just hold on… and win.
Closing: Winning the Simple Way
This battle gave me a few subtle “wake-up calls”:
- Sometimes winning is about surviving, not attacking
- Small HP differences can decide the outcome
- Void in magic battles isn’t optional—it’s essential
And most importantly:
hiding your key card can be more effective than showing it upfront.
This battle wasn’t about who was the strongest.
It was about who was best prepared for harsh conditions.
And this time, I was lucky enough to be the last one standing.
So remember, when you play under rules like this:
- Prioritize Immunity
- Don’t forget Void against magic
- And if possible… save your best card for last
Because in this arena,
the one who lasts the longest… is the one who walks away as the winner.
See you in the next battle,
and hopefully the poison won’t hit your team first 😄
