🎸Three Tune Tuesday Returns! Gavin MacKillop Producer Spotlight For This Weeks ThreeTuneTuesday! Eighties Tune! Nineties Tune! Alt2k (2000’s) Tune! & Bonus Tune! 💿

Welcome Back! Three Tune Tuesday for October 27th! Everybody else will be doily Halloween vibes I assume, so I’m just sticking to my Producer Spotlight series. This week it’s Gavin MacKillop. I originally knew him as the guy who produced a couple 2000’s lesser known tunes I liked, but as I went back he did a bunch of huge successful stuff. Since it’s limited to 3 tunes, I’ll do 2000’s, 90’s & 80’s picking one tike from one album each era he produced. I’m definitely picking two lesser known bands for the 2000’s, MxPx & Sugarcult. One will be my bonus pick. He produced the huge Barenaked Ladies record from 1998. I remember seeing that all over everywhere that year! I first heard of them from there song Shoebox from the Friends soundtrack and like the tune and can remember being like oh wow I know that band. So they’ll be the nineties pick. Eighties I’ll go with General Public, a band @thebighigg told me about when we discussed The English Beat & where members went after splitting up. Plus it’s one of the only albums he produced with a hit pre nineties 🤣. This is def a random AF mix of songs. Some producers have a specific sound like Steve Albini and Butch Vig. I hear quality production here but not like a groundbreaking specific style. I’ll KE doing one last producer spotlight next week, maybe two more but I promise they will be quality to extremes on the tunes & albums they produced. These tunes are are all good, it’s just a very different vibe for each era. I can definitely hear it being same producer when I compare the 2000’s songs. I can hear the distinct guitar production and tell. Anyway go listen! 🎸

This week it’s quite random style wise, but for all you big music fans, he produced a few more nineties records so I’ll do a part two for nineties Friday later this week! Ok ok enjoy!

I’ll be back next week for a brand new Three Tune Tuesday Producer Spotlight! I will cover a couple more but then I’m switching to a new theme 💿🎸🎶
The seconds Song with all the smiles made me smile too. 😊
Very pop heavy but good pop. Sadly you missed one of the best albums this gentlemen produced. The Church’s 1992 album. I prefer the bands righties stuff though the 1992 album isn’t bad at all. I’ll see you Friday and hope it is included :)
What an awesome TTT! They don't come much better than this. Barenaked Ladies, General Public, Sugarcult, and MXPX. Those first two I remember when they first came out, I was young when Tenderness was released, but still remember it well. One Week was hilarious, that was fun to listen to.
Too bad Ranking Roger is gone, but Dave Wakeling still plays shows with English Beat and General Public songs here in California from time to time.
Great picks today! Any big plans for Halloween or are you staying home?
