Instead of getting drunk to point of being sick on New Years Eve, me and my wife have a sci-fi movie marathon with her elderly mother and our children. One of those films we watched this season was the original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. I discuss the film and review it below.
The original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers from the 1950s is one of those films that proves you do not need spectacle to be disturbing. It is quiet, tense, and patient, letting dread grow naturally instead of forcing it. The movie trusts mood and idea more than shock, and that restraint is exactly why it still works.
On the surface, it is a simple science fiction story about an alien invasion. People are replaced by emotionless duplicates grown from pods. I watched the 1978 version of this in 2023 and it always stuck to me. Didn't know that was a remake though of a 1956 movie which I haven't watched yet. I love watching older movies that are considered classics though and generally enjoy them more compared to most newer movies that are released.
My favorite is the original, but I love the seventies version too, the cast is awesome!
But seeing the original as a kid first, I’d probably say the fifties is my favorite but it’s close. I appreciate the love they give original, remember when the leads are driving and a guy jumps on there car breaking the windshield? Or really he was running and yelling warnings?
