Talking of years, I made a post a few days ago My Soundtrack for the 80s my favourite decade
Quite a self-explanatory title and it is my inspiration for the next few posts on ttt!
First up is an artist that released a banger of a tune in 1980
It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

Tune 1 - Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only
This was possibly her most iconic vocal performance.
I am not going to discuss who was the best James Bond, because it was Shir Shean obviously!
Fun Fact For Your Eyes Only made her the only artist ever to actually appear in the opening title sequence of a James Bond film (usually it's just silhouettes!).

Tune 2 - Sheena Easton - Sugar Walls
This is the Prince era choice. Prince actually used the pseudonym Alexander Nevermind to write the track because he wanted to see if it could become a hit without his name attached — and hehe because he knew the lyrics would cause a scandal.. It was so edgy that it ended up on the "Filthy Fifteen" list in the US for its suggestive lyrics!
Here are some of The Controversial Lines
The title itself, "Sugar Walls," was a thinly veiled euphemism for female anatomy, and the lyrics described arousal with a level of detail that was shocking for 1984 radio:
"Blood races to your private spots / Lets me know there's a fire"
"Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls"
"Come spend the night inside my sugar walls"
"I can tell you want me... It's impossible to hide / Your body's on fire, admit it, come inside"
Nobody would bat an eyelid now!

Tune 3 - Sheena Easton - Modern Girl
So we have to include the debut single!
This was the track that introduced her via the BBC documentary The Big Time. It captures that early 80s optimistic energy perfectly. It’s a great companion to "9 to 5" which I will include as the bonus tune and shows the start of her journey from Lanarkshire to the world stage.

The "Two Titles" Story
In the UK, it was knows as "9 to 5." However, when it was time to launch Sheena in North America in early 1981, Dolly Parton had just released her own famous song called "9 to 5" for the movie of the same name.
To avoid confusion and I am sure litigation as we all know what that is like, the record label retitled Sheena’s version to "Morning Train (Nine to Five)" for the US and Canadian markets. It worked like a charm—it went straight to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her a massive star!

Nice selection of songs! Strut was always one of my favorites. I didn't fully understand it all as a kid, but it made me feel a certain way :)

I know when you like a singer because you give us an extra song. I think I've heard Sheena Easton before, but I wouldn't recognize her voice (although that last one sounded very familiar). I liked all four, but Sugar Walls is really suggestive. An '80s hug for you, Ed.
The last one was the one that made her in America and then she left the UK and never really had any more hits in the UK🤣

I was never a big Sheena Easton fan, but remember 9-5 and liked it. She was talented though.
That was the one that made her over there. Then she moved to America and didn't really do much over here hitwise!

Honestly, I totally forgot about her. Since decades I never heard any of her tracks/songs anymore. Have them on a few tapes though. Was in my 2nd decade of my live when she stormed the hit charts.
