When Thanalorian Scion's Thick Armor Stopped Me in My Tracks
![]()
Greetings, Splinterlands warriors!
This time, I'd like to share another story about the latest Brawl I participated in with my beloved guild, ClaNFT.
Before entering the arena, as usual, I took a quick look at the HIVE and SPS price charts. Unfortunately, both still seem to be moving in a rather disappointing trend. A significant price increase hasn't appeared yet, but as a long-time player, I've become quite accustomed to the ups and downs of the crypto world. Hopefully, as we approach the end of the month, some positive momentum will return and bring the market back into the green.
While waiting for the crypto charts to improve, thankfully, the Splinterlands arena continues to provide endless entertainment and stories.
For those who are new to Splinterlands, Brawl is one of the most exciting guild competition features in the game. This is where teamwork is truly tested. Every member is assigned a specific fray and does their best to contribute as many victories as possible to help the guild climb the leaderboard.
As usual, I was once again assigned to defend Fray 12.
At this point, it feels like a permanent seat for me. Whenever a Brawl begins, I already know exactly where I'll be fighting.

This Brawl technically offered nine battle slots. However, not many opposing guilds filled all of their available positions. As a result, I only had to participate in seven active battles, while the remaining two were automatic victories due to absent opponents.
Out of the seven battles I played, I managed to secure five wins and suffered two losses. Adding the two automatic victories, I finished the Brawl with a total of seven wins for ClaNFT.
Honestly, I was quite satisfied with that result.

It wasn't a perfect performance, but I was still able to make a solid contribution to the guild.
After all members completed their matches, ClaNFT accumulated 95 wins, 40 losses, and a total of 285 points. That was enough to earn us a third-place finish.
The rewards were not bad either:
- 48 Crowns
- 2,400 Merits for every fully participating member
- 21.7 SPS in the form of staked SPS
Not a spectacular outcome, but still a valuable addition that helps strengthen our accounts little by little.
A Defeat Worth Remembering
Among all the matches I played, one battle stood out as particularly interesting.

Normally, I prefer talking about victories. However, sometimes defeats provide the most valuable lessons.
You can view the battle here:
At the start of the match, I was actually quite confident. The lineup I assembled felt logical and well-suited to the available rulesets.
However, as the battle progressed, I began to realize that my opponent had built an incredibly difficult defensive foundation to break through.
The centerpiece of their strategy was Thanalorian Scion.
This monster performed brilliantly thanks to its combination of heavy armor and the Repair support provided by its teammates. Every time I felt I had finally chipped away at their defenses, the armor would be restored as if nothing had happened.
It felt like trying to empty a bucket that was constantly being refilled from above.
Attack after attack that I launched ultimately became nothing more than extra work for the opponent's Repair unit.
That was when I realized my strategy simply lacked the firepower needed to penetrate such layered defenses.
In the end, I had to acknowledge my opponent's superiority.
Even though I lost, the battle taught me an important lesson. In many situations, strong defense can be just as dangerous as overwhelming offense. Sometimes we focus too much on maximizing damage output and forget to prepare answers for teams that rely on armor and sustainability.
Meanwhile, the Merits I earned from this Brawl remain untouched.
My goal is still the same: save enough to open several Gladius Cases at once, making the opening experience more exciting and increasing my chances of obtaining the cards I'm targeting.
For now, I'm patiently building up my Merit reserves little by little.
Closing Thoughts
This Brawl once again reminded me that victories and defeats are inseparable parts of Splinterlands.
I managed to contribute seven wins for ClaNFT, our guild secured third place, and I earned additional Merits and SPS to strengthen my account. At the same time, I learned firsthand how difficult it can be to overcome a sturdy defensive setup built around Thanalorian Scion and timely Repair support.
My advice for fellow Brawl players: don't focus solely on offense. Take time to study how your opponents construct their defenses as well. Sometimes, a solid wall can be far deadlier than a sharp sword.
See you in the next Brawl report. Hopefully, HIVE and SPS will soon turn green, Merits will accumulate quickly, and victories will visit our arenas more often.
Greetings from the battlefield, and keep fighting strong in Splinterlands!
