When One Victory Feels More Valuable Than Five Defeats

Hello, Splinterlands warriors!

This week's Brawl gave me a very different experience. Normally, I can still walk away from Fray 12 with a big smile after checking the results. This time? The smile was still there—but only barely. It wasn't because the rewards were disappointing, but because the strategies I carefully prepared kept getting dismantled by my opponents.

Maybe they were simply playing at the top of their game. Or perhaps they've started figuring out my playstyle. Either way, this turned out to be one of the toughest Brawls I've faced in quite a while.

Still, it's often these difficult Brawls that teach the most valuable lessons.

This Week Was Truly Brutal

As usual, I was assigned to defend Fray 12.

The number of matches wasn't particularly high. I received 2 automatic wins because the opposing guild left battle slots unfilled. Unfortunately, that small bit of good fortune didn't last long.

Once the real battles began, it felt like I had run straight into a brick wall.

Out of 6 actual battles, I managed to win only one. The other five ended in defeat.

It's been quite some time since I've had a Brawl perform this poorly.

In the end, my contribution was:

• 9 points
• 3 wins (2 automatic victories + 1 battle victory)
• 5 losses

To be completely honest, this was far below the standard I set for myself.

Thankfully, the Guild Still Finished in the Top Three

Fortunately, Brawl isn't an individual competition.

My teammates in Guild ClaNFT stepped up with solid performances, allowing the guild to finish with:

• 77 Wins
• 51 Losses
• 231 Points

Those results secured us 3rd place overall.

Every participating member received:

• 2,000 Merits
• 23.605 SPS (staked) for players who own a Spellbook

These weren't the biggest rewards we've ever earned, but they were still a welcome bonus. The steadily growing SPS stake continues to strengthen my long-term Splinterlands assets.

One Victory Worth Remembering

I usually prefer talking about the battles I win rather than the ones I lose.

The reason is simple.

Victories often reveal strategies that are worth keeping.

And my only win this week definitely deserves to be shared.

My opponent brought a frightening lineup built around magic attackers. At first, I was genuinely concerned because once magic damage starts piling up, it's often difficult to stop.

Fortunately, I chose IZIAR as the centerpiece of my defense.

Her Taunt ability forced every enemy attack toward her, while Void significantly reduced the incoming magic damage.

Of course, even the toughest tank won't survive forever if left alone.

That's why I paired her with two dedicated healers:

• Sola Ranjell
• Meriput Magician

Together, they continuously restored IZIAR's Health every round.

The result was exactly what I had hoped for.

While my opponent spent nearly every attack trying to bring down a single monster, the rest of my team was free to eliminate their backline one enemy at a time.

Sometimes victory isn't about hitting the hardest.

It's about surviving the longest.

Closing Thoughts

This certainly wasn't my best Brawl performance. Losing five out of six real battles was disappointing, and I won't pretend otherwise. But instead of dwelling on the losses, I'm choosing to treat them as part of the learning process.

For now, I'll save the Merits I earned until I have enough to open another Gladius Case. Hopefully, my next pack will contain a card that gives my Fray 12 lineup an even stronger edge.

Until the next Brawl report, I hope next week's strategies are sharper, our lineups more refined, and that the victory screen appears far more often than the defeat screen.
