When Collecting Becomes a New Adventure in Splinterlands

avatar

Hello, Splinterlands warriors.

If I usually write about battle strategies, Archon combinations, or how to survive in an ever-changing meta, this time I want to talk about something a little different. Not about winning or losing in the arena, but about another side of Splinterlands that is often overlooked: the joy of being a collector.

It all started when I read the announcement about the Summer Fun event. Summer Fun introduces two new exclusive skin collections: Beach Bums and Tidebreakers.

When Favorite Characters Go on Vacation

The first thing that made me smile was the concept of Beach Bums itself.

Usually, we see the characters of Praetoria looking serious, ready for battle, carrying weapons, magic, and deadly abilities. But this time, they appear relaxed with a cheerful summer vibe.

There are a total of 40 Beach Bum Skins that can be obtained through Summer Fun Gift Boxes.

In my opinion, this is one of the most fun cosmetic ideas ever introduced in Splinterlands. There are no stat boosts. No power increases. No competitive advantage.

Purely for fun.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what makes a game feel alive.

I imagine characters who are usually busy fighting now enjoying a beach vacation. It feels like seeing another side of the world of Praetoria that is rarely shown.

Duplicate Protection Makes Collecting More Enjoyable

One of the things I like most about the Beach Bums collection is the Duplicate Protection feature. For collectors, this is very exciting news.

Normally, when opening random rewards, the biggest fear is getting the same item over and over again. But with Duplicate Protection, the system ensures you won’t receive duplicates until the entire collection is complete.

This makes the collecting process feel much fairer.

Many players have experienced the frustration of opening packs or loot chests only to get the same items repeatedly. So when I read about this feature, I immediately felt that the Splinterlands team truly thought about the player experience.

At least this time, the journey of completing a collection feels more reasonable.

Tidebreakers: A Collection That Sparks Excitement

If Beach Bums is the main collection, then Tidebreakers are the hidden treasure.

There are only 10 Premium Tidebreaker Skins, and they can only be obtained from premium rewards found in the $50 and $100 Gift Boxes.

This is where the collector’s spirit is truly tested. Interestingly, Tidebreakers also come with Duplicate Protection, meaning the hunt remains challenging without becoming frustrating.

And honestly, I prefer this kind of system over one that relies entirely on luck.

Rare Skins That Fuel the Hunt

Besides Beach Bums and Tidebreakers, Summer Fun also introduces several ultra-rare skins through different distribution methods:

  • Black Widow (25 copies)
  • Aurelia (15 copies)
  • Grix – Beach Bum II (10 copies)
  • Grim Bonewhip (100 copies)
  • Fizbo the Fabulous (50 copies)

Seeing those numbers, I immediately realized that some of these skins will likely become highly sought-after collectibles in the future.

Maybe a few years from now, we’ll see veteran players showing them off as a symbol that they participated in Summer Fun 2026.

And I’ve always loved that kind of historical aspect in a game.

My Strategy for Summer Fun

If you ask about my personal strategy, I won’t rush to open all Gift Boxes at once.

From my experience, the joy of collecting often lies not in the final result, but in the journey itself.

For new players, I also recommend not feeling pressured to own everything. Start with realistic goals.

Enjoy collecting Beach Bums first.

If you’re lucky enough to get a Tidebreaker, treat it as a pleasant bonus.

Lessons I Took Away

After seeing the entire event, I feel that Summer Fun teaches one simple thing:

Not all value in Splinterlands is measured in SPS, DEC, or GLINT.

Sometimes, value comes from memories. From collections we manage to complete. From rare skins we obtain after waiting long enough. Or from fun conversations with guildmates who are hunting for the same items.

And that’s why I like events like Summer Fun.

Because they remind us that behind all the strategies, leaderboards, and economic calculations, Splinterlands is still a game that’s meant to be fun.
