When Coastal Sentry Became a Destruction Machine
![]()
Hello, Splinterlands warriors!
There are some cards that seem pretty ordinary when you first look at them. Then one day, you discover the perfect combination, and suddenly that card transforms into a monster that leaves your opponent wondering, "What kind of card is this?"
Today, I want to share one of the most enjoyable battles I've experienced with Coastal Sentry, one of the Chaos Legion Rewards monsters that has long been known as one of the deadliest melee fighters from the Water element.

What makes this story even more interesting is that I didn't summon it through the Water element. Instead, I brought it into battle through Captain Frankie, an archon capable of leading warriors from the Tideborn and Rodentian bloodlines onto the battlefield.
The moment I saw the Outsider and Melee Mayhem rulesets, I immediately smiled. Melee Mayhem allows all melee monsters to attack from any position. That meant I didn't need to place Coastal Sentry on the front line. It could sit comfortably in the back while still slicing through the enemy's defenses.
And believe me, that's exactly what happened.
A Coastal Sentry Unlike Any Other
Looking at its base stats, Coastal Sentry is already quite intimidating.

It comes with 3 melee attack and the Double Strike ability. That means every attack turn is equivalent to two separate strikes. In simple terms, 3 damage instantly becomes 6.
At higher levels, it gains Piercing, and at max level, it unlocks Knock Out, making it even more dangerous.
But what happened in this battle was far crazier.
Since I built my team around bloodline synergy to maximize the effect of Inspire, I managed to bring five sources of melee attack bonuses into the arena. As a result, Coastal Sentry's attack power skyrocketed from 3 to 8.

Eight damage.
Two attacks.
Sixteen total damage in a single turn.
If a monster was still standing after taking that punishment, it was probably living its second life.
And that wasn't even the end of it.
When choosing the bonus abilities granted by Captain Frankie, I decided to give Coastal Sentry both Piercing and True Strike.
So whenever an enemy tried to hide behind thick armor, the attacks still punched through. And whenever an opponent hoped Coastal Sentry would miss, True Strike politely replied, "Sorry, there are no misses today."
A Battle That Felt Unfair
The moment the first round started, I could immediately see how terrifying this combination was.
Enemy monsters fell one after another before they even had a chance to showcase their abilities. Coastal Sentry attacked twice with power amplified by multiple Inspire buffs. Armor shattered, and health bars disappeared like ice cubes under the midday sun.

What I enjoyed most was Coastal Sentry's position in the backline. Normally, melee monsters want to stand in the front so they can attack. But thanks to Melee Mayhem, it remained safe while delivering absurd amounts of damage.
While other monsters exchanged blows on the front line, Coastal Sentry worked like a calm executioner.
No flashy moves.
No dramatic speeches.
Just attack after attack, making opponents vanish from the battlefield.

There were moments when I almost felt sorry for my opponent. A monster would barely step into the front position, barely have time to catch its breath, and then—
Two consecutive strikes.
Game over.

This battle reminded me once again that a card's strength doesn't always come from its stats alone.
More often than not, what truly matters is the synergy built around it.
Coastal Sentry is undoubtedly powerful. But without Captain Frankie, without stacked Inspire bonuses, and without the Melee Mayhem ruleset, the result probably wouldn't have been nearly this brutal.
That's one of the reasons I still enjoy Splinterlands today. There's always a new combination waiting to be discovered. There's always an old card that suddenly finds its spotlight again.
Final Thoughts
This battle truly belonged to Coastal Sentry. With Double Strike, multiple Inspire buffs, and the added Piercing and True Strike abilities from Captain Frankie, this monster transformed into a destruction machine that was incredibly difficult to stop.
If there's one piece of advice I'd like to share, it's this: experiment with Captain Frankie's bloodline combinations. Sometimes, a card that looks completely ordinary can become the star of the show when placed in the right team composition.
See you in the next Battle of the Day. May your reward chests contain the cards you're hunting for, and may Coastal Sentry never end up on the opposite side of the battlefield when you're playing!
