When Captain Frakie Turned Rodents into War Machines

Greetings, Splinterlands warriors.
The arena always has a unique way of teaching us something new. Sometimes through dramatic victories, and sometimes—like what happened to me this time—through a defeat that feels like being slapped with a steel glove.
This time I want to talk about a strategy that I think is quite “naughty,” and the mastermind behind it is Captain Frakie, a Legendary Archon who may look relaxed, but secretly can turn a melee team into a slaughtering machine.
Captain Frakie is a legendary Archon with a special twist from the new Bloodline feature. Normally, an Archon can only bring monsters from the same element, but the Bloodline feature opens the door to cross-element teams as long as they share the same race.
In Captain Frakie’s case, the two races he favors are:
- Rodentian
- Tideborn
And this is where the trick lies. All monsters from these two bloodlines receive Inspire.
For those who have played Splinterlands for a long time, you already know the effect:
Inspire adds +1 melee attack to all melee monsters on the team.
At first glance it looks simple. But imagine if Inspire appears multiple times.
My opponent seemed to have planned this strategy long before the match even started.

They brought four monsters from the same bloodline:
- Saltwraith Bulkhead
- Broken Earth Thug
- Echelon
- Meriput Magician
Four monsters means four Inspire effects active at once.
Which means every melee monster gains +4 damage.
And it doesn’t stop there.
At the front line stood New Beluroc Aegis, a monster with Taunt whose job was simple:
“Please hit me first. My friends are still sharpening their swords.”
Behind it stood Olivia of the Brook, a monster with the Mimic skill—meaning it can copy certain abilities in the arena.
At this point, the situation was already starting to look unhealthy.
When the Battle Began
As soon as the first round started, two additional abilities were granted: Piercing and True Strike. The monsters that received them were:
- Olivia of the Brook
- Saltwraith Bulkhead
Now imagine the situation.

Melee damage that was originally average, after being boosted by multiple Inspire effects, turned into at least 4 damage per hit. And some of them had Opportunity.
If I had to describe it, my team was like a group of crackers walking into a gladiator arena.
My monsters actually weren’t bad. They had armor, they had HP, and I even thought the formation was fairly stable.
But there was one problem:
the enemy’s attacks were simply too fast and too strong.
The weakest monster on my team was immediately targeted by Opportunity.
One by one they fell.
Armor didn’t help much because of Piercing.
Evade meant nothing because of True Strike.

And every time an enemy monster attacked, I could only think:
“This isn’t a battle… this is a meat grinder.”
A few rounds later, my side of the arena was completely empty.
Victory went to my opponent in a very convincing fashion.

If you’re curious about how I was elegantly demolished, you can watch the battle here:
The Interesting Part of This Strategy
What impressed me the most about this strategy is how the Bloodline feature truly changes the way we build teams.
In the past, we used to think:
“Which element works best?”
Now we start thinking:
“Which bloodlines can strengthen each other?”
Captain Frakie’s strategy clearly maximizes this idea.
The more Rodentian or Tideborn monsters you play, the stronger the Inspire effect becomes.
And if 6 monsters from the same bloodline appear, then theoretically the team could gain +6 melee damage.
That’s no longer just a buff.
That’s practically system-approved doping.

If I’m being honest, this defeat was bitter. But it was also quite enjoyable from a learning perspective.
Because from this match, I saw how an Archon like Captain Frakie can turn ordinary monsters into a highly dangerous army simply by stacking Inspire through Bloodline.
A simple strategy, but deadly in execution.
Strategy Tips
If you ever face a formation like this, here are a few things you could try:
- Use monsters with thick armor + healing
- Bring a Taunt tank to redirect Opportunity
- Or use magic damage to bypass their melee defenses
Because if they are allowed to attack freely…
Captain Frakie’s team can turn the arena into something like a giant cracker fryer.
And we all know one thing:
Crackers always lose to hot oil.
See you in the next arena story, Splinterlands warriors.
