The Power of HANV’s Double Strike in Splinterlands

Hello Splinterlands warriors, welcome back to my Battle of the Day post in Splinterlands.

This time, the story feels a little different. Usually, I write with the confident tone of victory. But today? I’m going to share what it feels like to face a figure I’ve only discussed in theory before: HANV.

And as it turns out… theory is never as brutal as reality in the arena.

This match featured the Brute Force and Maneuvers rulesets. What does that mean? No subtle tactics. No hiding in the shadows. This was a clash of giants. Massive damage. Fast exchanges. Whoever strikes first, smiles first.

So I deployed a straightforward formation:
“If this is a battle of raw power, then we bring the biggest muscles.”

The strategy was simple — high damage, decent speed, and the hope of attacking first to break the enemy’s rhythm before they could build momentum.

I felt ready.

Until the screen revealed the enemy Archon.

When HANV Entered the Arena

And there he stood. Calm. Not a dragon. Not a towering demon. Just a human figure.

And somehow, that made him even more terrifying.

HANV is a Legendary Fire Archon with a 7 mana cost. His Bloodline Dominion includes Goblins and Undead, and every Goblin and Undead unit he summons gains Deflect.

Deflect is no trivial ability. It makes units immune to:

  • Thorns
  • Magic Reflect
  • Return Fire
  • Blast splash damage
  • Even Corrosive Ward

In short, his army attacks without fearing reflected punishment.

But the true madness lies in his Tactics:
Double Strike and Swiftness.

And sure enough, Double Strike was granted to Blue Wyrm Travesty.

That monster has 7 damage.

With Double Strike? 14.

Fourteen.

That’s not a number. That’s a threat.

The opponent also fielded Husk of the Hunter. Those Undead units benefited from additional Deflect as well.

Round one felt manageable.

But in round two, Blue Wyrm Travesty moved.

One attack.
Two hits.

Two of my monsters fell instantly.

I paused — not out of anger, but realization.

“So… this is what it feels like to be on the receiving end of 14 Double Strike damage.”

The following rounds were even harsher. One by one, my team collapsed — like dry wood split cleanly by a sharp axe.

What once looked like a proud formation suddenly resembled a line of volunteers.

Lessons from Defeat

This time, I lost. Decisively. No dramatic comeback.

But that’s where the lesson lives.

HANV isn’t just a powerful Archon. He forces you to rethink target priority and damage control. In a Brute Force ruleset, Double Strike becomes a system-approved sin.

What shocked me most was the tempo shift. One high-damage unit empowered with Double Strike can become a full executioner.

An Honest Closing

Sometimes losing is necessary — so we understand how high the sky really is above the arena.

My short advice:
If you face HANV in a brute-damage-friendly ruleset, never underestimate Double Strike. Find a way to neutralize the executioner first. Otherwise, be prepared to watch your team fall faster than you expect.

See you in the next post — and hopefully, next time, we’ll be the executioner.
