SPS Burned, Glint Increased — Profit or Loss?

Hello, fellow Splinterlands warriors. This time I want to share a small story as a continuation of my previous post about a button that looks simple, but when you think about it, its impact could be long-term: Burn SPS for Glint.
At first, I thought this feature was just a small bonus. But after trying it myself for a few days, it turned out the story isn’t that simple. There’s a bit of economic drama behind that small button.
The idea is simple. If we activate this feature, a portion of the Splintershards (SPS) we earn from battles will be burned automatically. In exchange, the Glint rewards we receive increase—even up to double in the reward share calculation.
As a player who frequently opens the reward shop, of course I was tempted. Glint feels like fuel for account progression: it’s used to buy reward cards, strengthen your collection, and even prepare strategies for the next season.

So I eventually activated the feature. And it was noticeable. My Glint gains increased quite quickly. It felt like riding a bicycle that suddenly finds a downhill road—the pedaling becomes lighter.
But then a bigger question came to mind. After several battles, a more serious thought appeared in my head:
“If many people burn SPS, what happens to the token supply?”
To understand this, we need to look at some numbers. Currently, the maximum SPS supply is around 3 billion tokens, and the remaining total supply is roughly 2.75 billion after various previous burning mechanisms.

That means the amount of SPS is indeed large—arguably too large compared to the number of active players right now. That’s why the developer team has started encouraging several token burning mechanisms. And the Burn SPS for Glint feature is one of the most directly impactful ones.
A few days after the feature went live, I checked the burning leaderboard data.

The results were quite interesting:
- More than 185,000 SPS have been burned in a relatively short time
- In the Wild Format leaderboard, over 116,580.522 SPS were burned
- In the Modern Format, more than 69,751.396 SPS were also burned
This means players are indeed choosing to exchange SPS for Glint because they feel it benefits their account progression. In other words, the mechanism is working.
Why This Burning Matters
In basic economics, there is a very old rule: if supply decreases while demand stays the same or increases, prices tend to rise. As more SPS gets burned, the circulating token supply slowly decreases.
If, in the future, two things happen:
- new players arrive
- game activity increases
then SPS could become more scarce. And that scarcity could affect its price.
However, on the other hand, I also honestly see the current reality:
the demand for SPS is not very strong yet. UI updates, new events like mini sets, or new features are good, but they don’t automatically bring a wave of new players.
So the effect of this burning is likely not instant. It’s more like planting a tree. It takes time before we can sit under its shade.
My Personal Experience Using This Feature
After a few days of trying this feature, I noticed two things. First, my Glint progression became much faster. This helped a lot in unlocking rewards in the shop. Second, I became more aware of the game’s economy.
In the past, I saw SPS simply as a battle reward. Now I see it as an asset whose fate can be chosen:
- saved
- staked
- sold
- or burned for faster account progress
A small decision, but the strategy behind it is quite deep.
Burn SPS for Glint is not just a reward button. It is a small economic mechanism that could influence the token supply in the long term.
Will it immediately make the SPS price rise? Not necessarily.
But at the very least, the supply faucet that keeps flowing is now starting to be narrowed little by little.
If you’re a new player or an old player who is still unsure, my advice is simple:
Use the Burn SPS for Glint feature in a balanced way.
Don’t burn all the SPS you earn right away. Keep some for staking or long-term strategy.
Because in Splinterlands, sometimes the best decision isn’t the one that gives the fastest rewards…
but the one that most wisely protects the future of your account.
