Picked the Wrong Bracket in Modern Ranked?

There’s one thing about the new Modern Ranked Brackets system that I think needs to be considered from the very beginning: don’t choose your Bracket carelessly.

Because choosing a Bracket now isn’t like choosing something from a food menu where, if you don’t like it, you can simply order something else. There is a chance to reset, but that opportunity is limited.

And once you successfully move up to another Division, the door to changing your choice is practically closed until the season ends.

A Wrong Choice Can Still Be Fixed

The new system does provide something of an “emergency exit.”

If I realize that I chose the wrong Bracket, I still have one reset opportunity, as long as I haven’t successfully advanced to another Division yet. This reset will remove some Reward Points and Rating, while also restarting the season from that position.

For me, this makes sense.

For example, suppose I choose Gold from the start because I feel my collection is strong enough. But after a few matches, I realize that the opponents are too tough and my card levels aren’t really ready yet. I still have a chance to say, “Okay, maybe I was a little too confident earlier.”

Just reset.

The problem is, though, that this opportunity isn’t a round-trip ticket.

Once You Move Up a Division, Your Choice Is Locked

This is the part I think is most important.

Once you successfully advance to the next Division, you will be locked into that Bracket until the end of the season. There is no longer any way to reset and switch Brackets midway through the season.

And now I can’t change mine anymore because I’ve already moved up a Division.

And this is where I see the importance of understanding your own collection before pressing the Bracket selection button.

Don’t Get Tempted by the SPS Rewards

There’s another pretty strong temptation: looking at the SPS Pool distribution.

The higher the Bracket, the larger its percentage of the pool. Wood gets 1%, Bronze 3%, Silver 6%, Gold 12%, Diamond 25%, and Champion 53%. But those numbers don’t automatically mean that choosing the highest Bracket is the most profitable decision.

There are card-level limits, the number of players receiving full rewards, the competitive environment, and our own ability to consider.

For me, it’s like looking at the prize money in a competition and immediately signing up for the highest class.

The prize may be big.

But if you’re already out of breath during the warm-up, you’ll end up doing nothing more than watching that prize from a distance.

Let Your Collection Do the Talking

Because each Bracket has minimum and maximum card-level limits, the decision should start with the collection we actually have.

Don’t choose a Bracket just because its name sounds cool.

If my collection is really suited for Silver, there’s nothing wrong with competing in Silver. If I’m ready for Gold, then move up.

After all, this system is designed so that players with different collection strengths have their own competitive space.

Because in this new system, a wrong choice can still be fixed.

But only once.

After that, well… that’s it.

Happy climbing.
