One Card, Two Stories: Lessons from This Week’s Brawl
![]()
Greetings, Splinterlands warriors!
This week feels a bit different. Amid the news of the SPS price continuing to trend downward, there’s a small spark of hope that the chart might rise again. Whether it’s just temporary euphoria or the beginning of a recovery—we’ll see. And as usual, I was once again entrusted by my ClaNFT guildmates to hold fray 12. It’s practically become my regular seat—if I’m not there, it just feels off.

Out of the 6 battles I had to play, I only lost 1. The rest? Smooth. On top of that, I got 2 automatic wins because some slots from the opposing guild weren’t filled. So overall, my contribution in this brawl was pretty solid. As a team, we managed to collect 303 points with 101 wins, which brought us to a 3rd place finish.

The rewards were decent too: 44 Crowns, 2,200 Merits, and 22.982 SPS for every fully participating member. Nothing extraordinary, but enough to keep the motivation alive.
Now, what made this brawl interesting wasn’t just the results… but a small experience that really hit home.
Before the brawl, I decided to open a Gladius Case even though my merits hadn’t reached 10k yet. A bit reckless? Maybe. But it turned out to be a sweet decision—I pulled a legendary card. Since then, it felt like I had a fresh surge of energy, even though I had to start over again from zero merits in this brawl.
Now, onto the most interesting part: one monster that truly became the main story this week—IZIAR.
I used IZIAR in two different battles. On one hand, it became my hero. On the other, it was also the reason for my defeat. Ironic? A little. But that’s the art of playing Splinterlands.

In the first battle (which I won), IZIAR performed exceptionally well. With the Taunt and Void abilities, it acted like a magnet for attacks and was incredibly hard to take down. All enemy attacks were drawn to it, giving my other monsters space to operate calmly. My strategy flowed perfectly, and the victory felt clean.
If you want to see how that battle played out, here’s the link:
But then, in another battle… the story changed.
My opponent used a similar approach—and once again, IZIAR appeared on the battlefield. The difference? This time, it wasn’t on my side. And somehow, my strategy felt completely stalled. My attacks seemed to run out of steam before they could truly break through the defense.

IZIAR in my opponent’s hands felt more “alive.” It absorbed all the pressure, and slowly but surely, my team collapsed one by one.
If you’re curious how I got “defeated” by the same monster, here’s the link:
From that, I realized one simple thing: a strong card alone isn’t enough. What truly matters is who uses it better.
And this is where brawls feel like more than just matches. It’s about reading your opponent, understanding positioning, and sometimes… accepting that your strategy can be outplayed by a cleaner version from someone else.
And honestly, without the guild, I probably wouldn’t have understood the game this deeply.
The lesson from this brawl? Don’t fall in love with a single strategy. Even a card as strong as IZIAR can become a double-edged sword if not placed correctly.
My simple advice: understand the function of your cards, not just their power. Because in Splinterlands, positioning is often more important than raw stats.
And yeah… if SPS keeps going up, hopefully our spirits will rise with it too 😄
