Many Wins, Yet It Feels Empty

Hello Splinterlands warriors!

This week I’m opening my story on a slightly somber note—not because I suffered a crushing defeat, but because I’ve been watching the SPS chart continue to decline over the past 6 days. It feels like the market’s spirit is a bit sluggish. But oh well, in the world of Splinterlands, ups and downs are part of the journey. Sometimes what matters isn’t the chart, but how we keep playing through it.

The start of this season was actually quite enjoyable. I managed to reach Silver III and even opened some reward chests. But, well… luck is luck—I only got merits, without a single card. It was a bit of a “meh…” moment, but thinking about it again, merits are still valuable. Especially when combined with brawl rewards, they can lead the way to opening Gladius Cases.

Heading into this week’s brawl, I was once again entrusted with Fray 12—a position that already feels like destiny for me in the ClaNFT guild. But the atmosphere felt a bit quiet. Out of all the available slots, only 3 battles actually required me to fight.

And the result? Honestly, not very impressive.

Out of those 3 battles, I only managed to win 1. I have to admit, I lost the other two. Meanwhile, there were 5 automatic wins because my opponents didn’t fill their slots. So in total, I contributed 6 wins to the guild.

But strangely, those wins felt “empty.” Because only one of them was truly earned through effort. The rest felt like gifts that just fell into my lap. It was like joining a race where some competitors never even showed up at the starting line.

Even so, overall our guild still performed solidly. ClaNFT managed to collect 297 points with 99 wins, finishing in second place. The rewards were quite sweet: 50 Crowns, 2,500 Merits, and 34.075 SPS for each fully participating member.

Not bad—especially with SPS currently down. At least the brawl results still give a bit of motivation.

Out of all the battles, one stood out—and of course, not because of a win.

I was playing in the opponent’s arena, which meant one crucial thing: I couldn’t use Quora Towershead. That had been my main plan from the start. You could say I entered the match with a strategy that collapsed before it even began.

With a 28 mana cap and the given ruleset, I ended up choosing the Life element. I hoped Captain Katie could carry the match—but that hope wasn’t strong enough.

My opponent used Quora Towershead—and not just a regular one, but one boosted by a Martyr monster. The outcome was predictable. My team felt like it was standing in a storm without an umbrella. Captain Katie couldn’t withstand the pressure, and my team slowly fell apart.

From that, I learned an important lesson: don’t rely too heavily on a single strategy. When your main option disappears, you need a backup plan that’s just as strong. Otherwise, you end up like I did—losing before truly fighting.

On the bright side, I still enjoy the process. Every brawl always brings a new story. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes… you win without really fighting.

As for merits, the good news is I’ve now collected 8,209 merits from a combination of brawls and chest rewards. That means I’m just a bit away from opening 5 Gladius Cases at once. Now that’s something that really boosts the excitement again. Opening packs always has its own thrill.

In conclusion, this brawl might not make me proud personally, but it still brought valuable lessons. Sometimes we have to accept that our contribution isn’t at its best—and that’s okay, as long as we’re willing to learn.

So don’t rely on just one card or strategy. Always have a backup plan. Because in Splinterlands, the unexpected often becomes the deciding factor.

And yeah… even though SPS is going down, hopefully our spirit doesn’t follow 😄
