End-of-August Brawl: Lots of Wins, but Jacek Still Gives Me a Headache

Greetings, Splinterlands warriors!

It looks like the end of August wrapped up in a pretty enjoyable way. Another Brawl has come to an end, and this time I’m bringing some fairly sweet news. Not because I managed to become a one-man hero—far from it—but because overall, the ClaNFT guild managed to claim first place.

For those who aren’t too familiar with Brawl, this mode is a guild-versus-guild battle in Splinterlands. We don’t just bring our cards and hope RNG is on our side. There are Frays, specific rules, limited card choices, and of course, opponents from other guilds who can sometimes be difficult to predict. Read the situation incorrectly just once, and our expensive cards might end up doing nothing more than decorating the battlefield.

And once again, I was assigned to Fray 12. It’s starting to feel like my regular seat. If someone were handing out queue numbers, my name might already be printed on one.

This Brawl was actually a little unusual. Out of the eight wins I got, six were automatic victories because the opposing guilds didn’t fill their battle slots.

So don’t rush to assume that I was suddenly performing like a professional player.

From the battles that actually took place, I only suffered one loss. That means my final contribution was 8 wins and 1 loss, earning 24 points for ClaNFT.

Personally, of course, I’m happy with the result. But automatic victories still feel a little different. You get the win, but there’s no drama. No waiting for that final attack. No heart pounding as you watch your monster’s HP drop to one.

Winning without fighting is like getting a fish without going fishing. It’s definitely nice. But the story you bring home is just a little shorter.

Fortunately, personal results aren’t the only thing that matters in Brawl.

After all the battles were counted, ClaNFT collected 339 points from 113 wins and 31 losses. That result brought our guild to first place.

And that’s what really put a big smile on my face.

Especially since this happened right at the end of August. It feels like closing one chapter with a pretty good final sentence.

The rewards we received were also quite nice:

• 52 Crowns for the guild.
• 2,600 Merits for each member who participated fully.
• 28.569 staked SPS for players who own a Spellbook.

I’m already treating the SPS as additional ammunition to keep strengthening my staking position. As for the Merits, I’m still saving them up. The next target, of course, is still Gladius Cases.

Because to me, Merits are like spare change. You keep collecting them, and eventually you have enough to buy something fun.

When Conqueror Jacek Shows Up

Now we get to the part that I found more interesting than all those automatic victories.

There was one battle in particular that I wanted to share, because this was where I was reminded once again that Splinterlands is never really as simple as it looks.

My opponent was using Conqueror Jacek as their Archon. And I was up against Fina Voxom as well.

At first glance, I felt the situation was still fairly manageable. But apparently, reading the opponent’s lineup from the beginning doesn’t always mean we truly understand what is about to happen in the arena.

That battle eventually became my only loss.

I have to admit, my opponent’s lineup was much tougher than expected. And with the support of Conqueror Jacek, their entire team became considerably more dangerous.

What I Learned from This Brawl

If I had to take one lesson from this Brawl, it would probably be a simple one: don’t feel too proud just because you have a lot of wins.

Six automatic victories certainly made my record look good. But that one loss against an opponent using Conqueror Jacek actually gave me much more to think about.

Splinterlands always has a way of reminding us that a strategy that worked yesterday might not work today.

And that’s exactly what keeps me enjoying the game.

August ended with ClaNFT in first place, 113 wins, 339 points, some extra SPS added to staking, and more Merits going into the savings account.

For me, that’s more than enough reason to smile a little wider.

I’ll keep saving my Merits and hopefully open some Gladius Cases on the next opportunity. Hopefully the contents won’t make me say, “Wait… this one again?”

For now, I’m just going to enjoy this guild victory.
