A Small Button That Changed My Progress | Notes on Burn SPS for Glint

Hello, Splinterlands warriors. Welcome back to my little notes about a card game world that can sometimes feel more intense than a local village football match.
Lately, the menu interface in Splinterlands has changed slightly. Nothing too flashy, but enough to make us pause for a moment and think, “What is this new button for?” One feature that immediately caught my attention was the “Burn SPS for Glint” button that appeared in the Rewards menu, both in Modern and Wild modes.

At first, I looked at it the way you look at a new light switch in someone else’s house: curious, but also a bit hesitant to press it. But in the end, curiosity won. I activated the Burn SPS for Glint feature.

And the result was quite surprising.
As soon as I turned it on, my Glint earnings instantly increased by 100% compared to usual. That means every battle I win now gives me twice the Glint I normally receive. It felt like discovering a fast lane on a highway I never realized was there.
For those who are not very familiar with the ecosystem, Splintershards (SPS) is the official governance token of Splinterlands. You can earn it in various ways: winning battles, staking, reward pools, or other in-game activities.
There are several factors that affect how much SPS you get from a victory, such as:
- Your Ranked rating
- The League you play in
- Whether you use owned cards or Starter Cards
- Win Streak bonuses
- Use of Gold Foil, Promo, Alpha, or Beta cards
- Guild bonuses from the Quest Lodge
The better the combination of these factors, the more SPS you can earn.
This is where the Burn SPS for Glint feature becomes interesting. When it is active, a portion of the SPS you earn will be burned to increase your Glint rewards.
Economically, this is not just a bonus button. It is also part of an effort to balance token supply. Currently, the SPS data is roughly as follows:
- Market Cap: around $16.6 million
- Total Supply: ± 2.75 billion SPS
- Circulating Supply: ± 1.48 billion SPS
- Staked: ± 1 billion SPS
- Burned: around 242 million SPS
Looking at these numbers, to be honest, the SPS supply is indeed very large. Back when the game boomed during the pandemic, demand was high, which helped lift the SPS price. But over time, the player base decreased while the circulating tokens kept increasing. The result? The price went down.
That is why a burning mechanism like this actually makes sense. The more SPS that gets burned, the lower the circulating supply. And in simple economic theory: the scarcer an asset becomes, the higher its potential value.

For me personally, the most noticeable effect is on Glint. Unlike SPS, Glint is not a freely tradable token. It is more like an in-game resource—used to unlock shop rewards, buy cards, or strengthen your collection.
By activating this feature, the Glint I accumulate grows much faster. Even in Modern mode, I became quite aggressive in burning SPS until I eventually reached around the top 100 on the SPS burn leaderboard.

Honestly, I still don’t know whether this leaderboard will receive additional rewards in the future or not. It might just be a statistic, or there could be a surprise from the developer team later on. In Splinterlands, surprises like that are nothing new.
What is interesting from a community perspective is how this feature opens up new discussions. Some players prefer to save SPS for staking. Others choose to burn it for Glint. And some try to balance both approaches.
Not every reward has to be stored. Sometimes, by burning one asset, you gain another form of value that is more useful for your account’s growth.
If I may offer a simple suggestion:
try activating the Burn SPS for Glint feature gradually. Don’t burn too much SPS all at once. First, feel the impact on your account’s progress.
Because in Splinterlands, just like in life, the best decision is not always the one that gives the fastest results… but the one that wisely maintains balance.
