A Common Monster with Crazy Damage!
![]()
Hello Splinterlands warriors!
A new season always brings new colors to the arena. Sometimes it’s not only about rankings or season rewards, but also about the new cards that start appearing on the battlefield. And lately, one that has caught my attention comes from the escalation series—a sea creature with a rather majestic name: Magnificent Mollusk.
Honestly, the first time I saw the name, I smiled. “Magnificent Mollusk?” It sounds like an elegant sea snail. But after seeing its stats and abilities in the arena, I realized one thing immediately: this snail is not just a decorative sea creature… it’s a walking cannon.
Magnificent Mollusk is a monster from the Death element that belongs to the escalation series with a mana cost of 13. For a common monster, that’s quite a large mana cost. Usually when a card reaches numbers like that, our expectations rise as well.
And Mollusk does not disappoint.
It comes with a massive ranged attack, reaching up to 6 damage. That’s not a small number in Splinterlands. In many situations, a single shot is enough to take away half of an enemy monster’s health.
On top of that, it has speed 4, which I think is quite important. With that speed, it often gets the chance to attack first in each round.
In a strategy game like Splinterlands, striking first can sometimes be just as important as striking hard.

What makes Magnificent Mollusk even more interesting is the abilities it gains as it levels up.
At level 5, it gains Demoralize. This ability reduces the melee attack power of all enemy monsters. So not only does it deal damage from afar, it also weakens the enemy team at the same time.
Then at max level, it unlocks a fairly unique ability: Apex Strike.
This ability makes Mollusk target the enemy monster with the highest power. In other words, it acts like a sniper that immediately locks onto the biggest threat on the enemy team.
Personally, I find this very interesting. Normally we rely on positioning or other abilities to reach certain targets. But with Apex Strike, Mollusk seems to already know exactly who needs to be taken down first.
The Battle That Taught Me Something
I once experienced the power of this card firsthand in a battle.

Interestingly, our strategies were actually quite similar.
We both anticipated the possibility that the opponent might use magic attack debuffs. So each team brought one ranged monster as the main damage source.
On my team, I used Meriput Slinger with 4 ranged attack.
Meanwhile, my opponent… brought Magnificent Mollusk with 6 ranged attack.
At the start of the round, the battle felt balanced. Our team compositions were quite similar, and the strategies were not too different.

But then, one by one, Mollusk’s attacks started to show their impact.
Six damage from a single shot felt like a sledgehammer. Every time it hit my team, it felt like we lost momentum. Monsters that should have survived two rounds suddenly fell much faster.
And that’s when I realized something: sometimes a difference of just two damage points can completely change the direction of a match.

In the end, even though the battle was intense, I had to let the victory go to my opponent.

Watching the replay afterward, I could only think to myself, “Alright… this snail is actually really dangerous.”
Interesting Things About Magnificent Mollusk
After seeing and experiencing it in the arena, I noticed several key strengths of this card:
- Very high ranged damage for a common monster
- Decent speed, allowing it to attack first frequently
- Demoralize helps weaken melee-heavy enemy teams
- Apex Strike focuses on the most dangerous enemy target
This combination makes Mollusk not just a typical damage dealer, but also a hunter of the enemy’s biggest threats.
Lessons From This Battle
Fighting against Magnificent Mollusk taught me a simple lesson:
In Splinterlands, we often focus on many things—ability combinations, monster positioning, or rulesets. But sometimes what determines victory is something very simple: enough damage at the right moment.
And Mollusk has exactly that.
In my opinion, Magnificent Mollusk works very well in:
- Medium to high mana battles
- Formations that need strong ranged damage
- Teams that want to quickly eliminate the enemy’s strongest monster
A strategy worth trying is placing it in the backline with a strong tank protecting the front, allowing it to keep firing without interruption.
In short, don’t be fooled by its status as a common monster.
Because in the Splinterlands arena, sometimes the calm-looking sea creature is the one carrying the biggest cannon.
