Being In A Relationship With The Right Intentions

There's more to a relationship than meets the eye. Hence, clarity before going into one, is very necessary.Getting a clear picture of what a relationship really is, is the beginning of the choices we make. To buttress my point, let me throw more light on what a relationship really is.

A relationship has to do with various human connections, how we connect with others, which include romantic, platonic, family, friendship, partnership and professional association.

Whatever type of relationship one is into, there's always a price to pay, for it to work. Failure to acknowledge this fact is a clear indication that one isn't prepared at all and if eventually one enters without acknowledging this truth, no doubt that it might hit the rock. Truth is, relationships are about commitment, communication, mutual respect, trust, honesty and quality time. One who's not willing to sacrifice all these shouldn't jump into a relationship.

However, people go into relationships with different ideologies. Some, for companionship, some for love, some others, for partnership, while some, for procreation and some, for all reasons. I perceive relationships to be beyond love, it requires huge responsibility and a whole lot of commitment and sacrifice. If one enters a relationship without putting these into consideration, thinking it's just for the sake of love alone, when reality sets in, the new language would be “ oh! I should have remained single and enjoy my freedom.”

Before I entered into the relationship I'm into, I weighed all the available options. I asked myself the reason why I wanted to go into it, which is primarily for companionship. Knowing fully well the heavy tasks that come with it, making sure I was mentally, emotionally and physically prepared to take up the responsibility, which no doubt requires great commitment. These assurances were the conviction I had, before making the decision…clarity and intentional choice.

Relationships shouldn't break or keep us in bondages but to increase and make us better individuals. Given the fact that I intentionally entered the relationship with an open mind and some unexpected expectations with those already expected, then, I think I have no regrets or wishing to be single.
