🎸A Very 1996 Pop Punk Four Tune Friday On Nineties Friday! 💿 Tunes Before The Mainstream Sucess & Major Label Deals! 🎸

It’s Thursday afternoon but I’m finished with tomorrow’s post so enjoy Nineties Friday! A few hours early!

Another Nineties Friday is here!
This week on #FourTuneFriday on #NinetiesFriday I’m picking 4 songs released in 1996 (or close to it) and all from lesser known pop punk bands on independent record labels. Some of which went on to have big major label deals and some at least minor mainstream success. These four tunes are all just prior and from 1996! Enjoy!

First up I pick a lesser known band & song! The Pop Punk band MxPx and the song “Today Is In My Way” off there 1996 album Life In General. This album was easily one of the best nineties pop punk records. It should have been as popular as Blink-182 and has a radio hit but it did not. MxPx is a band that didn’t get the fame they deserved but this album is a classic regardless!

Second up I go with the band Unwritten Law
And there song “Close Your Eyes” from the 1996 album Oz Factor. Unwritten Law would go on to release the next record on a major label and finally have some commercial success in 2001 with the song Seeing Red. This album remains an independent released lesser known record and I think it’s rad!

Third tune is from the band Home Grown! The song “Surfer Girl” from 1996’s That's Business record. I actually shared the 1998 recording because it’s better quality, it made an appearance on the following album also, 1998’s Act Your Age.

Next up for tune number four it’s the song “ San Dimas High School Football Rules” by the Ataris.
From the album “Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits” I’m breaking the theme and picking a 1999 released tune! The Ataris fit right in with these 1996 tunes & bands so thought why not! Another band who would years later get the big record deal & even have a hit song! But there hit was a cover song so they made almost no money of it as it wasn’t there own writing. But rewind to this 1999 classic album I believe is way underrated and if you like the tune definitely go listen to the entire album! Just like the tunes above it was a small independent record label release so it didn’t get mainstream play, but this album definitely had songs that could have been hits otherwise!
