Weekend Engagement - Every Second Counts

What are you fastidious about and why? Explain.

I re-learnt a new word today. How many of you actually know what's the meaning of fastidious? I think I last saw this word probably when I was schooling, in some English class. Anyway, for a refresher, here's the meaning that I found online:

For me, I definitely am fastidious about time matters, like schedules and routines.

At my current stage of life, I just feel like I need more than 24 hours a day because there are so many things that I would like to do. And unfortunately, there's only 24 hours a day, or 168 hours a week, and here's a list of stuff (not exhaustive of course) that I spend time on:

  • Sleep - I feel that I am not getting enough sleep because of all my activities in the day and it's not really optimal from the point of getting enough rest
  • Work - It's somewhat inevitable (unless I strike a windfall) that I need to set aside 40+ hours a week doing work, and that's excluding all the extra overtime and commuting time
  • Exercise - I used to procrastinate a lot because it's so easy to have excuses like "I am tired after a long day at work" or "The weather is so hot" but now I make sure I make time for it. It can get quite stressful to squeeze in workouts especially during the weekdays because this means I will probably reach home pretty late after work + dinner + exercise.
  • Hive - I am pretty much on Hive almost everyday, and amidst all the activities fighting for time, Hive is another one. It does take a lot of time to think and put together my thoughts to write posts, or even read posts from my friends and drop a comment or two. At times, I feel like giving up, not because of Hive, but I simply don't have enough time.
  • Housework/Chores - This is just part of adulting I guess. I need to get my house cleaned, get my laundry done, iron/steam my clothes, wash the toilets, get groceries, etc. Each individual task might not take a lot of time but they add up.
  • Time with loved ones and friends - I do set aside quite a considerable amount of my non working hours to spend time with my loved ones and catch up with friends, especially on weekends, because it's near impossible to do so on weekdays.

Of course, there's more stuff to list but just based on the list above, it amazes how I managed to juggle all these activities and fit into a 168 hour work week. And thinking back, it's largely because I put in a lot of effort to plan and optimise my time so that I know what to accomplish every single day. And for that, I can say I am definitely fastidious about schedules and routines. Haha.

I guess the tricky part of all these is dealing with curveballs, like last minute changes, or even on days that I was unwell. Everything comes to a standstill, and then there's a lot of catching up to do. Part of me wonders how people with kids manage their time, but among my peers, it's probably a matter of outsourcing, e.g. getting someone to babysit the kids, or getting helpers to take care of household chores, etc. Somehow, we as humans are always adaptable and will always find a way to manage and survive.

And out of curiosity, I wonder if you guys are always busy individuals and struggling to optimise your time, and do you have a lots of time on your hands and just enjoying a slower pace of life? Let me know in the comments below!

Alright that's all I have! Ending this post with a dessert photo that I enjoyed recently! There's always room for sweet things in life! Hehe!
