Introvert Talks - Young At Heart But...

"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)

This is my weekly post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.

We always hear people use the phrase "young at heart" BUT sometimes I think I am "old in the mind" as well.

When I was younger, most people that I interact with, by probability, would either be around my age or older. Now, being in late 30s, this probability is starting to tilt downwards, and I realise I do interact quite a fair bit with people significantly younger than me, e.g. around 10 years younger. The hard truth is I am not young anymore.

Recently, I realised if I had to choose, I would prefer to talk to people older than me (versus younger than me). Of course, this is more of a preference (as humans, we all have) and not any form of discrimination. And I started to reflect why I had this preference.

And I concluded, I am just "old in my mind". I think I act and think older than my age, even though I am not sure why. And when I talk to friends and colleagues who are older than me, I enjoy listening to their life experiences and I find that I am always able to gain some wisdom and life lessons, and then apply to my life. Being someone who actively plans for my future, their advice is always very valuable so that I know what to do as well as what to avoid.

Of course, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy talking to people who are younger than me. I think the younger generation grew up quite differently from me and they do offer a lot of fresh perspective about life and their view of the world as well. While there could be some generation gap at times, I think there's always no right or wrong, because I remember that this "generation gap" always existed back then between my generation and the older one as well. That said, I am still trying my best to pick up their lingo, stuff like "slay", "alpha", "no cap" etc. Initially, I thought they were kind of weird, but like I mentioned earlier, we should not be too quick to judge and maybe we just embrace some of these lingo and appreciate their form of creativity.

So what about you? Do you have a preference of talking to people older than you or people younger than you?
