Battle Mage Secrets - The Invincible Death Legendary Cards

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Briar Patch ruleset this time! This means all units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Water Epic card, Axemaster, which is no stranger for long time players!

Lira The Dark has very interesting abilities including Opportunity, which is one of the strongest ability for Splinterlands cards. Coupled with her extremely high speed of 6, she lands her hits accurately and very early in the rounds, ensuring the tricky cards in the backline do not get their turns. Her Snare ability also coming in very handy during Earthquake battles as they bring down Flying cards. All in all, an extremely useful and very strong card both individually or in any type of team.

Lira was turned into a vampire as a young woman when she attended a party of the rich and powerful, only to later realize that the majority of the guests were vampires. However, Lira did not see her new self as a monster. Rather, she saw her vampirism as an opportunity. Lira was born into a high-standing family that struggled with maintaining their wealth, so she embraced the transformation and set to work building her power and influence.

After her parents passed away, Lira took over their ancient manor nestled deep within the mountains. It is a manor always wreathed in shadow, and it is there that Lira conducts her rituals. A pact with shadow itself gave Lira immense spellcasting prowess. It enabled her to traverse the Splinterlands by moving from shadow to shadow. It also enabled her to use shadows as weapons against her enemies, allowing her to attack from afar.

Over the years Lira has led a cult of vampires. With her guidance, they have infiltrated the sects of the rich and powerful. Lira can make anyone do as she wishes through exploitation and threats, but if those don't work, she is more than happy to feast on her prey.

Across the Splinterlands, the name Lira the Dark is said with fear and awe. Other vampires envy the power she has achieved. She has had to defend her manor many times against those seeking to unseat her. The corpses of those who have tried now hang from her walls as a warning to others.

Octavia Shadowmeld is one of the interesting Death summoners, but summoners are silenced in this battle, so he's selected just for the level requirements of the cards.

Harklaw is Death Legendary card that shines at Melee and Ranged fights because of his Shield ability. Coming at 8 mana, his stats are extremely tanky and he is definitely stronger than Cursed Windeku for most battles.

2	Queen Of Crows	9

With Thorns being in the ruleset, I would try to avoid Melee cards and that leaves us with Ranged and Magic cards. Queen Of Crows has Close Range ability and a tanky 11 HP so she come in as a strong secondary tank.

3	Djinn Muirat	9

With mana being a luxury, Djinn Muirat is selected because of its tanky stats as well as its Void Armor ability. That also brings it to a total of 11 HP actually.

4	Witch Of Warwick	5

Being a Brawl battle, Witch Of Warwick can be picked and I think it's a good choice because high mana battles will always be relatively long. That gives her a good chance of both accumulating enough Life Leech and gaining Bloodlust.

5	Dhampir Stalker	7

Dhampir Stalker in my view is a very strong Death Ranged card because of his True Strike ability. With such high damage, the constant worry that players would have is whether the damage can be effectively dealt to the opponent. With True Strike, the 3 Ranged damage is guaranteed and that's a big hit for a 7 mana card.

Summing up the backline would be Lira The Dark, who has the strong Opportunity ability. Opportunity hits are always very strong because you never know who they can strike out from the backline. Having a high speed of 6, it keeps her safe from Sneak damage as well.

• Pre Battle: When the lineups showed up, I saw 4 Legendary cards on the opposite end and my confidence immediately disappeared. It would definitely be a big challenge but let's see what happens!
  

• Round 1: Both teams lost their tanks in this round. Despite Harklaw having Shield, my opponent had a crazy amount of hits and it did its best to hold out for the team. On the other hand, my team also did well to match the progress of my opponent. That's 5 vs 5 now.
  

• Round 2: Queen Of Crows was equally tanky as Harklaw and survived the entire round before succumbing at the last turn. By turn, my team had taken out two cards from the opposing end. We now have 1 card advantage and Djinn Muirat takes over as the next tank.
  

• Round 3: Djinn Muirat is extremely tanky and the rest of the team continued raining all the hits on my opponent. Lira The Dark did an excellent job taking out cards with Opportunity hits. Now it looks like we are about to spring a surprise win!
  

• Rounds 4-5: And we did it!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I think Death lineups are incredibly strong for high mana matches because there are many high mana Legendary cards, such as Lira The Dark, Djinn Muirat and Harklaw. That's not the case for some of the elements.
