I said it before... the Dire Bear breaks bones! Meet my new, very angry papa bear, unleashed for the very first time in an 89 mana cap battle with Counterspell and Unprotected rules.

This was the perfect setup to finally let this 10-mana powerhouse loose, and it did not disappoint. Even at level one, this beast is a true force of nature! Has 2 melee attack, 7 health, and a commanding presence that dominates the front line.

Without armor in play, thanks to the Unprotected rule, its raw endurance and consistent melee output took center stage. It could absorb blows that would flatten most other tanks, and when it hit back, it hit hard.

Aurelia: +1 Health

Dire Bear: Melee

Dread Tafarian: Melee with Heal

Mad Gearhead: Melee with Reach

Vengeful Monk: Melee with Opportunity

Kicking Roc: Ranged

Wilhelmdale Deputy: Ranged with Snare

The Counterspell rule also worked in my favor, since Dire Bear relies purely on physical might rather than magic. With so much mana available, I was able to build a strong frontline and provide solid support behind it!

Aurelia added bonus health, Dread Tafarian brought melee healing, Mad Gearhead with Reach extended the offense, Vengeful Monk hunted opportunities, while Kicking Roc and Wilhelmdale Deputy handled the ranged assault.

From the first swing, the Dire Bear mauled through the enemy Tafarian, while my ranged units swiftly dismantled New Beluroc Aegis. Even when pinned by arrows, the bear managed to dodge an attack before eventually going down!

However, the tides of the battle were already in my favor. The enemy’s healing couldn’t keep up, and their frontline crumbled under the relentless pressure.

Seeing the Dire Bear charge forward, shrugging off hits and holding the line with sheer determination, was immensely satisfying. It’s one of those rare, high-mana creatures that doesn’t often get the spotlight, but when the right rules align, it absolutely takes command of the battlefield.

The strategy worked because I built a durable melee-centered lineup that perfectly exploited the Unprotected and Counterspell rules, allowing the Dire Bear’s raw strength to dominate without fear of magical or armored resistance.

Darkwood dire bears form temporary associations during mating and when sows rear cubs. They will not hesitate to attack mounted travelers and caravans, especially if they are hungry. And they are almost always hungry.

This match reminded me how powerful situational cards can be when used strategically ! Sometimes, all it takes is the right setup to reveal a monster’s true potential. After this performance, Yogi has definitely earned a place in my lineup for future high-mana showdowns! See the full battle here!
