Unboxing the Solana "Seeker" phone.

Is it a gimic or a great idea. A phone with inbuild crypto wallet and decentralized app store in addition to all of the usual features you can get.

I'm not even sure myself but i did make a small profit on Solana during the great memecoin rush of 2024. I pre-ordered the phone as my own one was crap and it was a mid price phone with a crypto wallet. I couldn't resist.

First impressions.

I have to say that I'm actually quite impressed with the phone. The quality of the build is very good. The speed is way ahead of my last phone. It has all of the usual android features so much that it was definitely copied directly from another model. It is so similar in look and feel that there is no friction in changing phone and the apps all transferred straight over.

The negatives would be an average enough camera.
It needs a back button on the bottom of the face instead of having to reach up for the top corner of each web page.
It has a solana Dapp store but the Dapps are crap. Nothing worth downloading.

What would be brilliant would be a collaboration with Hive dapps creating a solana login to our blockchain and have a suite of really cool apps preloaded on the phones.

Imagine getting your phone and seeing actifit, inleo, splinterlands, ecency, leodex, snappie, liketu and all the others. Quality apps that work and would be useful for people. That would be a brilliant collaboration. One for VSC to work on and get in line for the next edition.... If only.

There were 150,000 units sold just from the presale which is a very good number for any crypto project in terms of real users.

The first version was released two years ago and received a number of airdrops worth thousands at the peak of the meme cycle so hopefully we see something similar again this time and the phone can pay for itself.

Overall I'm a fan but they have a long way to go in the next few years to rival the top phones and a long way to go in terms of apps on solana.

Just one question - is it just another smartphone or does it come with perks like airdrops and more... staking earnings etc. ?

It's meant to have some upcoming airdrops along the way but whether they happen or are worth any money is another story altogether.

If i get dropped any winners i'll let you know but at the moment it's a medium spec phone with a solana wallet built in.

It just came out at the right time when i had some crypto on solana and went for it. A decent phone but a bit of a gimmick as well.

Never even knew Solana were producing smarts phones. Just as said, Hive should find ways to collaborate and get its frontends App incorporated into it. It helps for easy advertising and web3 experience. Thanks for the update friend

This is the second version so it will be interesting to see if they keep it going through the years and improve on the whole concept.

It would be class to see a hive collab but only a dream i would say.

I think it's very good that the phone is of a good built, it's a good foundation to have. The Dapp section would probably be worked on future software upgrades. I hope it won't be exclusively for Solana dapps.

The crypto phone is interesting and the idea sounds really cool, but without robust decentralized applications and real utility, it risks being just another cool gadget rather than a game changer.

They say that there will be lots of apps build for the app store but form my experience of web3 apps very few of them deliver anything useful or last very long apart form a few on hive.

It's a fun gimmick for me to have a web3 phone but doesn't do much for now. If they can expand on the idea it could be the way forward on mass adoption through the tech but still a way off.

Five years ago there was a lot of buzz about Web 3 and expectations that it would be a leader in the coming years, but the five years have passed and we have not witnessed any radical and tangible transformation as expected, unfortunately.

Nice, you should get some airdrops along the way that might be worth more than the phone cost. I remember the first time I heard about the 'solana phone' that it felt lighe a gimmick. Right now in case I would need a new one I would actually consider it.

Enjoy your new Seeker phone!

Thanks. It's an upgrade on my last phone so i'm happy with it either way but the fact that the last one did so well and gave some airdrops gave me the motivation to chance this one.

Who knows what airdrops will come along but anything is welcome.

It's a fun concept and one that could become the norm somewhere in the future.
