🎶 Three Tune Tuesday Is Back! Let’s Get Into Eighties Alternative Rock! 🎸 The Songs & Bands Who Influenced Nineties Alternative Rock Music! 💿

I’m ditching the weekly vlog because frankly almost nobody listens, so as I try some different text format structure’s please stay with me if I try something clunky. Just don’t wanna be an account who shares 3 tunes and doesn’t add anything. I think I’ll write up here and just leave the tunes separate below instead of writing a paragraph for each song. Nevermind, I’m instead going to separate the text and try putting it with the songs!

Ok let’s get into it! Back in the eighties they didn’t call it alternative rock music, it was maybe art rock or punk or college rock?

like my first pick, The Pixies! With the song Gouge Away. There is no band more “Alternative Rock” than The Pixies! They don’t really fit “Punk” or “Art Rock” they are probably the reason Nirvana sounds like they did! Nirvana tipped off the Pixies and Kurt admitted it!

Band - Pixies
Song - Gouge Away
Album - Doolittle (1989)

My second pick is the band HÜSKER ĐÜ! A band that sounds like they were a nineties band but actually released 5 albums between 1983 & 1988. Before there time is an understatement to say least. I’m picking the song Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely which was released in 1986. They have even earlier records but I thought this was a good example of the band. Again hearing this I’d say alternative rock for sure. Back than it was called punk or hardcore believe it or not.

Band - Husker Du
Song - Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely
Album - *Candy Apple Grey (1986)

Third up I go with R.E.M. who was also a major influence on nineties alternative rock. Bring the only band I pick today who actually has not just mainstream success in the eighties, but actually had massive success later on in the early nineties and shared the charts with the alt rock bands who they influenced. I go with the song It’s The End Of The World As We Know It, a song released in 1987. A ultra rare example of one of the righties alternative rock bands not just having huge success in the early, Mid & Late Eighties but had massive huge albums in 1991 & 1994 among others. These three bands influenced nineties alternative rock as much as anyone else!

Band - R.E.M
Song - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
Album - Document (1987)

Ok ok one Bonus Tune! 🎶

The Descendents definitely belonged to the punk rock scene and are less likely to be grouped in with the rest I chose but they definitely are huge influences on nineties bands like Green Day, The Offspring & Blink-182, where the above picks more so influenced the Nirvana wave of things.

Band - The Descendents
Song - Silly Girl
Album - Don't Want to Grow Up (1985)

Nice tunes Gene. Husker Du I watched live in the eighties, they were a harder sounding band live.
