7/31/26 - My Last Nineties Friday Post?… Might be!💿 Four Tune Friday On Nineties Friday! 🎶 Let’s Get Into The Eighties Alternative Rock That Heavily Influenced The Nineties Alternative Rock Scenes! 🎸 The Songs & Bands Who Influenced Nineties Alternative Rock Music!

This week for Nineties Friday I’m picking songs from the Eighties but all bands who heavily influenced the nineties alt rock scene! Frankly with Hive being where it’s at, I might just stop bothering to post on Fridays & only do Three Tune Tuesday once a week. I’m not sure yet but I figured let’s go with the bands who were the generation just prior to the nineties bands that influenced what was to come to the extreme! If I only choose to post on Tuesday’s don’t worry, I’ll bring the nineties vibes to TTT often for ya! But just in case enjoy today!

Back in the eighties they didn’t call it alternative rock music, it was maybe art rock or punk or college rock? One thing is for certain though, these bands are part of the reason the nineties wave of bands sounded like they did!

like my first pick, The Pixies! With the song Gouge Away. There is no band more “Alternative Rock” than The Pixies! They don’t really fit “Punk” or “Art Rock” they are probably the reason Nirvana sounds like they did! Nirvana ripped off the Pixies and Kurt admitted it!

Band - Pixies
Song - Gouge Away
Album - Doolittle (1989)

My second pick is the band HÜSKER ĐÜ! A band that sounds like they were a nineties band but actually released 5 albums between 1983 & 1988. Before there time is an understatement to say least. I’m picking the song Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely which was released in 1986. They have even earlier records but I thought this was a good example of the band. Again hearing this I’d say alternative rock for sure. Back than it was called punk or hardcore believe it or not.

Band - Husker Du
Song - Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely
Album - *Candy Apple Grey (1986)

Third up I go with R.E.M. who was also a major influence on nineties alternative rock. Bring the only band I pick today who actually had not just mainstream success in the eighties, but actually had massive success later on in the early nineties and shared the charts with the alt rock bands who they influenced. I go with the song It’s The End Of The World As We Know It, a song released in 1987. A ultra rare example of one of the righties alternative rock bands not just having huge success in the early, Mid & Late Eighties but had massive huge albums in 1991 & 1994 among others. These bands influenced nineties alternative rock as much as anyone else!

Band - R.E.M
Song - It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
Album - Document (1987)

The Descendents definitely belonged to the punk rock scene and are less likely to be grouped in with the rest I chose but they definitely are huge influences on nineties bands like Green Day, The Offspring & Blink-182, where the above picks more so influenced the Nirvana wave of things.

Band - The Descendents
Song - I Don't Want to Grow Up
Album - Don't Want to Grow Up (1985)

Originally I didn’t have a Bonus Tune picked out but I thought of one just now! This band unlike the others above, honestly didn’t have a great catalog. This tune was a wild standout that didn’t sound like most the bands work. They said this tune itself even without the band otherwise being great made a huge influence on nineties bands. Many covered it and it just is a rare situation where even not having the catalog the others have, this band has one amazing song! Enjoy!

Band - Dramarama
Song - Anything Anything
Album - Cinema Verite (1985)

Thanks for swinging by! Hope you enjoyed the tunes! If not come back next week for a whole new set of Nineties Tunes!🎸

I'll be around part time 👍

Just might reduce down from two posts a week to one. I enjoyed doing daily for many years but with it being dead here it just doesn't make sense anymore for me. I won't be gone all together though 👍

Cheers my friend! Here’s some HSBI for you!

On a side note, .04 even basicly hit with Bitcoin just staying sideways at 65K area. Unfortunately my call was spot on. What u thinking about Hive currently?

Yeah, I am also running out of Motivation with even Top Posts only earning me $1 maybe and not many people around anymore that are actually reading the stuff.

Yeah my thoughts exactly,
I see some still posting daily but many posts have zero interaction and they post for bot votes they delegate for. I just don’t get doing that. Not everybody but I see a lot of that and it’s a problem. I’m surprised there are still whales who haven’t sold a portion of stake. It’s very clear to me we are heading to sub penny next couple years. It’s dead AF. Still the higher ups milk DHF & it’s just crazy things haven’t changed even though we are down over 98% from ATH & 99% once we hit .0335
Which looks very likely this year. Hive is a shit coin. Not saying the community or people are, but token is 💩 coin. We no longer have bull markets and yet o see many saying buy buy buy ignoring we crashed during bitcoins 15K to 126K bull run move from 2022 bottom when hive was .25 cents at low that year, now we are 80% below that with Bitcoin still being 400% higher. As I was telling people. The majority of alt coins would not join in the bull market this past cycle, and 99% didn’t. It was obvious to me and yet people got mad at me for saying it. I’ll always love Hive platform but it’s dead man walking now.
