We Need To Stop Relying On Corporations To Grow our Food
This really should not have to be said, but we shouldn't be relying on corporations, or our government, to provide us with food. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we should give up our lives to live in my agrarian utopia, but instead, we should try to limit our dependence on the systems in place.
All this talk about the price of food and inflation got me wondering about how we're so dependent on organizations to provide us with sustenance. Observing the local homeless man who is malnourished, it makes me feel sad. After all of these developments in technology and education, why is it as a species we have decided to outsource the production of food to an industry of massive corporations or a system of government intervention? Technology and education was meant to make life easier, not make our salads more expensive.
I suppose this is less of a rant and more of a call to action. Why not start small, choose your favorite spices, vegetables and fruits and grow your own meals? Sure, it takes time and effort, however, I'm sure its quite harder to work at your day job than simply taking about 15 minutes to get a pot, fill it with dirt and seeds and water it. Daily or bi-daily upkeep is necessary, but c'mon.
Since I got into gardening, it has opened up a new pathway of thinking. If we rely heavily on the system instead of our neighbors and ourselves, are we truly free? Can we claim to be free if we can't get the foundations and the basics of existence down? Let's be less reliant on the system and be more self-reliant, even it it means growing a single cilantro plant.
