entry smap 295: a street scene
it's not often i get to see four different species of our feathered friends in one scene. now all four of these species are common in human environments here. 2 herring gulls, 3 eurasian magpies, 3 common pigeons and a hooded crow. the occasion fo the gathering was somebody left or put out some food. one gull has its head in a tray while the magpies and crow are enjoying some crumbs. i don't know for sure but it looks like the pigeons are allowed to be on the outskirts but not where the food is.

as you can see, this interesting dynamic was playing out on the street corner in front of me in the direction where i was headed. when i approached them they all fled except the single crow. i gave it a wide berth when passing and the crow shifted around a little but held its ground.

i didn't wait to see what happened next but my guess is the crow advanced to the plastic tray and the other birds returned and worked out among themselves who gets to eat and who has to wait.
i took these shots with my S22 phone just a few days ago.
