entry reflections 294

the center of town here is very small, so there are just a few streets with shop windows. but when the sun is in the right place in the sky it shines on the walls on one side of the street which is an optimal condition for reflections on the windows across the street.

e most of the shops have big glass surfaces, the kind that are standard in shops in cities around the world, there are still a few of the original old windows in the rather charming historic town. some of the smaller panes are frosted glass with a design. the original window glazing putty is a combination of calcium carbonate and boiled linseed oil. it is the best material to bed glass to a wood sash. modern alternatives may be cheaper but they are markedly inferior to the original. while superior even this putty must be replaced when it becomes old and brittle as seen here.

the red house that is being reflected in this post is now a restaurant. some trees, sky, and street sign etc are also reflected in this modern glass window. but the scene is more complex. the potted plant and the backside of a ceramic bust sculpture of a woman are both inside but since this shop is on a corner there is another window facing that street. through that window a white house (actually two) though faint is clearly visible.

the roof lines of those houses are clear and there is even a patch of sky which can be seen directly through the two windows while the darker blue sky with the cumulus clouds is a reflection from above and across the street. so in the section above the white house the reflected sky is overlaid on the directly visible sky, or is it vice versa?

aren't reflections fun
