Small Wonder People Feel so Exhausted!
On any given day, I end up watching a wide spread of videos and vlogs on a wide range of topics.
I suppose I might be considered "boring" in the sense that I am more interested in learning things than in being entertained. Which isn't to say that I don't at least occasionally watch cat videos and such!
As holds true for most things, there's lots of good advice for people who feel tired a lot of the time.
But that advice tends to focus primarily on how to manage our sleep and activity... but not so much on why it is we so often end up feeling exhausted.
Sometimes it feels like people are fearful of criticizing the almost-worshipped "grind culture" so many people feel beholden to. But is that really any way to live?
Note that I said "live," not exist; for it's not that hard to merely exist in a world that doesn't feel supportive of people living a balanced life. But how do you live and the thrive?
I have always found it ironic that the original (stated) intention of the Industrial Revolution was that automation and machines would make it so that people wouldn't have to work so hard.
And here we are: Working longer and harder than ever.
Somewhere along the way, "someone" decided to equate days off and rest days with laziness. Heck, even the Bible advocates a day of rest... but so many have to almost be dragged kicking and screaming into taking a day off.
But I do appreciate their protestations that they can't afford to take time off. More irony there...In spite of all the hours we work, we can't afford to take time off to enjoy the life we have worked so hard to create!
Seems like a bit of a sad circus show, to me...
Canadian Youtuber Stephen Antonioni talks about how the "social contract" of our parents' and grandparents' era has broken down and is not longer a reality. You know, mom, dad, two kids and house in the burbs.
It takes approximately 2.5 times more "effort-hours" to have the same thing in 2025, compared to in 1965.
Interesting how the "again" part of the MAGA equation is actually chasing pie in the sky because it doesn't actually exist in the 2025 economic climate!
People are still trying though... but small wonder that they end up feeling exhausted!
This past week I worked really long and hard on one of my eBay businesses, hoping to really generate some momentum. There was a time when that level of effort would have meant I could blow off the next 2-3 days... but that reality no longer exists; first thing this morning I launched directly into the next thing.
Can't afford to sit still, you see. Probably not until they put me in a box and carry me out.
And so it goes.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week ahead!

did the Industrial Revolution have a stated intention?
It's like that here on the farm, work from can to can't and do it again, all season long. By October, I'm wishing for the end of November when things slow down for the winter. At least I can enjoy the slow time in winter, until March when it all starts again.
