I simply dont do subscription software at all. I will gladly pay for an app if i really like it and will even pay a reasonable upgrade fee for new versions (if i want the new version). Im not going to do a monthly fee though.
I get that some apps need to be subscription based ( though probably far fewer than there are). Online games for instance. Theres just nothing like that i use consistently enough to justify a monthly payment.

I'm totally in alignment with that! I don't mind paying for things that is a one-time fee and then you don't ever contact me again unless it is to announce new features or upgrades. And then it's a one-time fee again.
I don't think most apps "have to" be on a monthly subscription basis, except maybe for news services. In most cases, I just think they see a continued source of revenue and try to go for it.
