Music has a magical way of triggering memories from the past. We can hear a song we recognize and suddenly nostalgia from the past comes flooding back to us. Often times this can be memories we had long forgotten, and now suddenly they're at the forefront of our minds like it happened yesterday. Let's dive into a song I love that triggers fond memories!

I remember first hearing this song from Trans-Siberian Orchestra in 2019, as part of their "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" tour. My wife and I splurged and got tickets as a Christmas gift to each other. We went with some friends from my wife's work, which made it extra special to share the moment with them.
Fair warning, this song is a real tear-jerker. You can even see that Nate Amor, the gentleman performing the song, has to remove his beanie to wipe tears from his eyes before continuing the song. The lyrics tell of a girl who is lost in a snow storm and unable to get back home on Christmas Eve. Stuck outside on the street corner, the girl wishes on an old neon bar sign she sees from the street corner.
This was the last concert we went to before the craziness of COVID started. It felt like the world had gone crazy, and a part of me that wanted to see the good in the world died when I saw the ugliness. This song not only reminds me of the generosity and magic of Christmas, but like the child wishing on the old neon bar sign, part of me wishes I could go back to 2019 and see the world again without the cynicism and the ugliness.
