entry smap 253: a family of geese

when it comes to observing birds, there are few things more deeply satisfying than viewing a family grouped together, especially ducks, or in this case greylag geese, Anser anser. the geese were swimming away fast and were farther away than my phone camera is capable of dealing with to get a sharp photo but i took the shot anyway of the two adults and their darling goslings. if i was expecting to see them or any other families i would have taken my lumix camera but i was scaling around on rocks and carrying it does slow me down. the mobile phone is great for still shots and super easy to carry. so it's often a toss up whether to bring the camera or not, and on this occasion i let it be. anyway i feel that what the photo lacks in clarity it makes up for in charm. the one adult leading and the other following behind demonstrates the care they take in raising their offspring. they usually lay at least three eggs so the fact that their are only two goslings here may indicate that for any number or reasons, one or more have not survived. such is nature, i hope these two manage and in a couple of years will be breeding here along the southern coast of Norway
thanks for the curation

Lovely family photo. Your phone camera is definitely better than mine.🙂

I hardly use my phone camera.
