Collating and curating my own work for my upcoming photographic exhibition
I need to get things together for a photography exhibition. What feels like an eternity ago, I posted my statement of intent about Myth, and I think I finally done selecting works for the show. I have many of them printed already, but there are still a few that I need to print.
I'll start by giving you a preview of the images I have already printed, and put into frames.
Image Number | Size | Title |
---|---|---|
1 | 310x390mm | Ruin |
2 | 310x390mm | Whim |
3 | 310x390mm | Wilt |
4 | 310x390mm | Fallen |
5 | 310x390mm | Shroud |
These prints are pretty much ready to go, and in lightweight frames. They might need D-rings added to the back, depending on the gallery hanging system available at the venue. They are 310x390mm in size.
Image Number | Size | Title |
---|---|---|
6 | 430x540mm | Oracle |
7 | 430x540mm | Entwine |
These are currently hanging on my wall in the hallway of my house. The first three images are in frames measuring 430x540mm, the final one is 500x600mm
These also hang in my hallway. They're gallery ready, at least they should be!
Image Number | Size | Title |
---|---|---|
8 | 430x540mm | Still |
9 | 460x590mm | Beyond The Blade |
These are the images I have literally just sent off for print. They will be A4 sized, in the same size frame as the images I've already printed, only they will have a matte.
Image Number | Size | Title |
---|---|---|
10 | 310x390mm | Queen |
11 | 310x390mm | On The Rocks |
12 | 310x390mm | Wet |
13 | 310x390mm | Shimmer |
14 | 310x390mm | The Other |
15 | 310x390mm | Un |
16 | 310x390mm | Contemplate |
These images are all from photography projects I have completed over the last 5-6 years. Ordering the prints is the easy part.
I want to produce more new work (as I always do) but there is just so much to do at the moment. I have to also get some work ready for a history symposium, which will be some video pieces - I'll be writing about the process for that one soon, probably.
But all in all, I think this is going to be "all" for my initial body of work from my current photographic catalogue, bringing together things that have the theme Myth.
I particularly enjoy the fact that I am choosing to put in a self portrait, and I am rather ironically calling it "The Other", because I am not often in a photographic image that I capture.
I am also dreading calculating the production costs, and what rate I will need to sell the images at, if I want to make a profit after venue commissions - if I sell any. That will be another task, but at least I know how to use spreadsheets good.
I'm a bit anxious about putting the work out into the world as a "complete" body of work, and I'm not sure that I am entirely "happy" with it, as I look at the images and think that the ideas that exist in my head, unmade works, are better.
That's the problem with being an artist. Your next piece is always going to be the best one.
When I know when (and where) these works will be exhibited, you will all be the first to know!
Good luck with the exhibition. I think a lot of photographers hide behind the camera so it's nice to see you included.
As per my snap the other day, I think the venue is mostly locked down now, but I am still waiting on final confirmation and the go ahead. :) Sadly, I think I'll have to exclude the ones with "blood" in them, as it is likely to be a "family friendly" venue.
These are stunning. Simply fantastic. Shame I'm not closer to Australia, would love to attend this kind of exhibition. Great stuff.
Thank you! I am really pushing my "renaissance man" recently - every single one of my interests is getting prodded.
I will post a "digital version" to coincide, so each image can be seen, and be stored on the chain, in the sequence it is displayed in the venue, for historical purposes. :)
I think my favourite is fallen. It has that Universal Studios 1930s horror movie feel to it.
Sadly, I think that one is gotta go on the chopping block, due to the "blood", as the festival / event / venue has to be PG. That shoot was a ton of fun to produce, though. I even made the fake blood myself!
It must be a lot of hard work putting this work together and "the other" is a really clever name to you portraits.
And looking at the pictures, I can really get that Myth vibe
Well done!!!
I'm sure the exhibition turn out great🥹
That is the only self portrait I have ever printed, too!
That's quite surprising for someone in the art field
i always find it hard to select images for print , downside of being a perfectionist i guess you always see your own mistakes .
good luck with your gallery
Not featured, one of those exact shots, where imperfections in my post processing where very obvious in print, so that image was "thrown away", so to speak :P
oh these photographs are beautiful 🥹🥹 i hope your exhibit goes great!
Cheers, I am hoping it goes without a hitch, too!
Good luck - it's an interesting process!
I am yet to apply the D-Rings to the back of the frames, so I am still able to burn myself with the hot glue gun on the way to this exhibition. That will be a task that is done ... carefully.
That's normal though XD
Always!
Unless it's a sketch in which case it's fine (they are all pieces as far as I'm concerned, just some are more piecey than others).
I cant wait to put it on the wall and share it. :)
Neither can I!
A good number of head turners there. They look amazing. Best of luck with them
Thank you kindly! I hope them to turn into money turners, because, well, I need money!
Im a property manager and run a couple of shopping centres and in one we help the local art group by selling their photographs and paintings on one of our large white walls . It’s a win for us because people like looking at new images rather than a vacant unit . You would be surprised how bad they are and how good they sell .
