entry smash408: morning shadows on the wall

in January the sun rises in the southeast behind the trees across the way. the front of our house faces east so as the sun rises it shines through the front windows at an angle. we have a mango tree which is now in flower in front of the house. the first light in the small northeast front window of the house is filtered through that tree casting soft shadows on the inside wall in the northeast corner

the iron grills on the windows have a simple diagonal pattern. i had wired some delicate Christmas lights in the front windows weaving them between the bars of the grills. the soft light seeping through the mango leaves cast a frail but elegant shadow on the nearby wall. this series of shots has been converted to black and white but otherwise i have not edited them

with the leaves blowing in the light wind and the sun moving higher and southward the shadow was continuously changing, here the light is faint and diffuse

but just minutes later the light was stronger though the area was much smaller and the shadow more blurred. and just a few minutes later the shadows disappeared as the sun had risen such that the overhang above the window blocked it out and anyway by then it was time for me to move on and start my day's activities.
