entry smap 261: common pigeons

once upon a time rock doves lived in the wild with no interaction with human settlements but ages ago they evolved/were domesticated to thrive in urban areas. while their natural habitat is cliff ledges, houses and buildings offer a similar substitute throughout much of the world, since they are particularly able to adapt to various climates and environments they are likely present in small towns but huge flocks develop in cities where they have access to feed on waste from humans and especially in places where people feed them.

so it was one winter day i was walking along Akerselva in Oslo and when i came to Olafiaparken i was suddenly surrounded by a huge flock at my feet. obviously this was a place where people had a habit of feeding the birds and the birds had a habit of expecting a feeding. alas i had nothing to offer them and they didn't waste time standing and waiting around once they realized that.
