our kitchen has a lot of stainless steel utensils- cannisters, plates, bowls even glasses. i prefer to drink water from a glass glass and tea and coffee from a ceramic cup but i have to admit the steel alternatives are smart. with a stone countertop and floor dropping a fragile glass, bowl or cup is certain to result in it shattering. to the eyes of a reflection hunter the solid shiny steel alternatives have another advantage. though it may not be sufficient grounds for purchasing them, with their round shapes they make rather interesting reflections. leaning a round plate up against a round cannister creates a reflection with a surprising concave shape. it's basic physics but still rather fascinating

laying the same round plate on the countertop beside the same cannister creates a oval shaped reflection of the plate on the cannister. the reflection of the cannister onto the plate is more diffuse but the shape is far less distorted.
placing a steel glass in the scene, adds another surprise- the entire plate is reflected in the much smaller glass but with a greatly distorted oblong shape
