a chilly november afternoon sunset at Omlidstranda

with our town on the west coast of a peninsula we don't get dramatic sunsets facing the sea but just a 20 minute drive to the other side is Omlidstranda. it's a campground with a nice sandy beach and an eastward facing natural rocky coastal area well worth a visit. this late in the season there were only a couple of people in the area out observing seabirds, as the waters and the islands in the area are a bird reserve. from the sandy beach and campground there's a path leading over a small bridge out to a tiny island Rogna and that's our destination for our afternoon walk .

it was only 14.30 when we started but the sun was already low and sinking fast

there was a light frost in shady areas while the remains of some wildflowers and grasses stood catching the late sun's rays in between the rocks

when the sun ducked behind the clouds it immediately felt much colder

but this was shaping up to be a very nice sunset so we buttoned up in anticipation.

it seemed the sun would set behind Fugløya, the Bird Island in the distance

Omlidstranda is a beach on a small cove. the short spit of land with these trees is Fetangen on the south side of the cove

it started to look like it was in flames as the sky below the clouds turned a bright orange.

closer to the beach there were also great reflections on the water

just 5 minutes later the drama over the water was almost over

back on the sandy beach we enjoyed the last remaining glow behind the trees before heading back to the car
