✨ October Progress Report ✨ Why My 70-20-10 Hive Savings Plan Only Looked Great on Paper
About eight days ago I shared my 🦥~yearly goal with the #SlothlySavers club, #WeAreAlive tribe, and the #BusyBees community. They’ve been supporting me both in the planning stage and in tracking the reality of my financial goals.

✨ Welcome to my monthly progress report and a huge thanks for being a part of this journey✨
I didn’t feel the need to report on my weekly review in a complete post. My account is currently still quite small. A monthly progress report feels like the sweet spot for now. (But maybe next week I'll try to make a short post.)
While not yet a full 30-day cycle, I gained some valuable insight into how my savings plan worked in its implementation. Some things have caused me headaches, while others needed some tweaking and some more explanation.
Main & Secondary Goals: HIVE, HBD, and Community Tokens
The foundation of my goal is built on powering up 1 HP every day starting this #Uptober, all the way through the end of 2026. By December 31, I’ll hopefully have powered up 150 HP and 15 HBD in savings. To reach this, my strategy on Hive was to post every day, engage regularly through thoughtful comments and short-form shares.
My guideline is to divide my income into 70-20-10 slices where 70% goes to power-ups, 20% to HBD savings, and 10% flexible liquid or the Sloth Fund.
After one week, I learned that this strategy not only didn’t work, but created additional confusion. To understand why, let's glance at the last 30 days of October.
#SlothlySavers Progress
- HP 2026: 91.67 / 150 HP —
▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱▱61% - HBD 2026: 1.38 / 15 HBD —
▰▱▱▱▱▱▱▱▱▱9%
Looking at my current progress, we’re already at 61% of my HIVE Power goal. My author reward is 34.08 HP for the entire 30 days, averaging at roughly 1 HIVE/day. This will immediately go to the daily power ups, leaving me with absolutely nothing to save in HBD or for Sloth Fund.
I did the calculation already. In order to reach my HBD Savings goal, I need to set aside at least 1.5 HBD per week. At our current rate (1 HIVE = $0.05) that would be about an extra 30 HIVE per week, or a total of 300 HIVE set aside by end of year.
Looking at the numbers another way, my goals effectively translate into accumulating the equivalent of 450 HIVE by the end of 2026 – 150 HIVE powered up and approximately 300 HIVE converted in HBD savings.
I wasn’t fully aware at the time of planning, but Hive no longer pays the author’s HBD portion, even though in the post settings we still see the 50% HBD & 50% HP rewards structure. I realize now that this 50-50 way of doing things, which has always been how it was done in the past, was really helpful for our financial wellness.
Now that it’s gone, a new layer of complexity is introduced to the equation. At least another extra step is required of slothly me: swapping HIVE to HBD.
The 70-20-10 didn’t cut it
I tried applying my 70-2-10 formula to my October earnings. The idea was simple: 70% for future growth (Power Up), 20% for HBD savings, and 10% for the Sloth Fund.
The problem became obvious very quickly. Diverting 20% of my earnings into HBD left me with too little HIVE to meet my short-term growth goals.
| % | HIVE | HBD |
|---|---|---|
| 70% future growth | 23.856 | - |
| 20% HBD savings | 6.816 | 0.3408 |
| 10% Sloth Fund | 3.408 | - |
This is only a simulation of course, because all that income would have already been spent on this month’s daily power ups.
At first, this seems like a balanced budget allocation. In practice, however, my earnings are still small enough that every HIVE matters.
If I wanted to participate in both the November and December PUD (Power Up Day) challenges, I’m already about 20 HIVE short. To complete my planned daily power-ups throughout November, I will need to use up my HBD savings allocation.
The problem was that I tried to apply a percentage-based system to a fixed savings goal. If my target is 1.5 HBD per week, then the formula only starts working once 20% of my monthly income equals that target. At current HIVE prices (1 HIVE = 0.05 UDS), that means earning roughly 600 HIVE per month, which is still far beyond where I am today.
Sloth Fund Status
The Sloth Fund remains on hold for now. Until I can consistently meet my HIVE Power and HBD savings targets, it will remain a lower priority. Once my earnings grow, I'd like to restart funding it regularly.
Community Tokens: slooow but suuure
I didn’t set rigid numerical goals for tokens, except for my Actifit posts. One, because I'm yet to understand what they are really, how they are rewarded by the communities that use them, or two, how we can even earn them. I began consciously looking for community posts that are consistently appearing on my feed and saw that other Hivers were posting their daily steps through Actifit. I just happen to love walking and had spent last year building a habit of walking 20,000 steps a day.
5,000 AFIT Tokens
AFITs are the tokens earned by providing proof of activity via the Actifit app. Since October 13, I’ve posted my daily report card – currently on an 18-day streak. I’m currently enrolled in the arena for challenges that allow me to get rewarded for reaching milestones, such as daily steps goal, weekend goal, weekly, and the monthly ladder.
I’ve accumulated a total of 1,171.276 AFITs by doing the challenges and posting daily on the platform. At this rate, I should reach 5,000 AFITs in the next 76 days (around January 13,2027).
If you’re wondering why 5,000? It’s because we can only start earning AFIT from posts on the app once we have that many AFITs in our wallet.

Notable Achievements and Milestones
Weekly Author Badge – 1
I’m getting my first weekly author badge. I didn’t think I would be able to get one of these, simply because I’m not yet successful in building a habit of posting a blog post every day. However, I’ve been sharing my Actifit report cards daily since the 13th and didn’t realize that they also count!
If you’re struggling to post regularly, I recommend giving the Actifit app a try. It provides a simple framework for sharing your daily activity, and before you know it, you’re building a fitness habit and a publishing habit at the same time.
50 Hive Power Reward
I unlocked the 50 HP Reward badge thanks to the payouts Ive earned from posts, comments, and curation. The badge description doesn’t mention any specific time frame, so I’m guessing it reflects my earnings accumulated over the lifetime of the account.
9 Years on the Hive Blockchain
In May, I also unlocked the 9 Years badge. Reaching this milestone feels like a meaningful achievement after so many years on Hive. If you’re curious about your own milestones, you can check them out in the Personal section of HiveBuzz.
Follower Count: 411
I’m happy to share that my follower count has reached 411! I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all my new followers this month and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support my content. Your votes, comments, and encouragement are greatly appreciated and inspire me to keep learning, growing, and contributing to the Hive ecosystem 🦥💚
Giveaways, Competitions, and Challenges
To help achieve my HBD savings goal, I plan to participate in as many contests, competitions, and community challenges as I’m eligible for. These activities don’t always pay out in HIVE directly, but they can provide valuable rewards that contribute to my overall growth on Hive. Beyond the prizes, they’re also a great way to connect with other Hive users, discover new communities, and stay motivated to remain active.
Over the past week alone, I earned some extra HIVE and community tokens through:
- An 🐝Actifit post being selected for curation
- The Alive Chat Song 🐝Challenge
- Commenter 🐝giveaway from #SlothlySavers Club
These rewards add up over time, and it’s proof that staying engaged with the community can be rewarding in more ways than one.
I’ll continue keeping an eye out for new challenges, contest, and giveaways that align with my interests. The best opportunities on Hive can come simply from showing up, joining the conversation, and having fun along the way.
Looking Back and Moving Forward
Biggest Lesson Learned
The biggest lesson from October was realizing that percentage-based budgeting doesn’t work well when your income is still relatively small. My goals are fixed, but my earnings are variable. Going forward, I’ll focus on funding the fixed goals first and allocate any surplus afterward.
Unexpected Wins
Some of the best results this month weren't planned. My Actifit reports helped me earn curation rewards, unlock a Weekly Author Badge, build a posting streak, and improve my daily activity levels at the same time.
November Focus
• Continue daily 1 HP power-ups
• Reach 2.5 HBD savings
• Maintain Actifit streak
• Reach 2,000 AFIT tokens
• Participate in Power Up Month
• Enter more contests and community challenges
October taught me that setting goals is the easy part. Understanding how those goals fit within the realities of Hive's reward system is where the real learning begins. While my original plan didn't work exactly as intended, I'm ending the month with more Hive Power, new badges, growing token holdings, and a clearer strategy for the months ahead. That's progress I'll gladly take. November is all about refining the plan, staying consistent, and continuing to build one day at a time.
