Saturday Savers 2025 Progress Report - Week 41
It's Sunday, and I missed doing my #SaturdaySavers post on the right day again !
The picture below definitely symbolises growth - a few years ago we were given two walnut trees by the squirrels. Mostly because they buried nuts in our garden from the tree a couple of doors away. They sprouted, one in the front garden and one in the back. The one in the front is in slight the wrong place, so I cut it down. Twice. Each time it came back stronger, so I decided it deserved to live.
Even though walnuts don't usually make nuts until they are a good 10-15 years old, these ones started making nuts from about 5 years. The back tree gave us just a few. The front one bombarded us with them ! These two trays have just come out of the oven (they last best if they are thoroughly dried in a warm oven at about 40 degrees centigrade for a few hours), and are about a quarter of the total crop.

Here's my table of progress for the week;
How Did The Week Go ?
A minor thing was that I finally passed the 13,000 HP mark. Yay !
But the big news of the week was definitely the big price dump affecting all cryptos. Logically, it's just part of the normal volatility we see. A concern, however, is that HIVE is following a pattern I've seen the last few times. It drops hard at the same rate as everything else, but is slower to recover and doesn't recover to the same degree.
A far bigger worry is that this time it had a very brief low very close to the point where the HBD haircut rule kicks in. I'll be honest and say that I don't think I understand the fine detail of the rule. Is it triggered the moment the HIVE price drops below the threshold, or is it based on an average price taken over a short period of time ? Also, is it reversed once the price goes back over the threshold, or are lost HBD gone for good ?
While avoiding a hasty over-reaction, seeing how fast and hard HIVE can drop is making me revise my own personal stop-loss figure significantly upward. I haven't come to a firm decision yet, but I think rather than powering down any HIVE I'm considering liquidating enough HBD savings that I can move that value to something like USDT (or maybe even physical gold) which is likely to be more resilient to market shocks. That way, I'm at least covering the cost of fiat invested in Hive if the haircut does kick in.
I'm also looking more closely at Hive's tokenomics, because I think the DHF is giving far, far too much market cap away without any control over which projects are delivering tangible value and which are just a way for a small group of people to asset strip the ecosystem.
Let's all hope the price recovers fully !
If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.
If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.
I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.
So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
