Mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2721: Uttermost North
This post was inspired by today's 5-minute writing prompt in the Freewriters Community - North of There
I thought I'd try my hand at saga-style.... not sure if it worked, but putting down short punchy sentences is definitely quick !
Enjoy !

He returned to his woodland cottage, and the door was smashed in.
Inside, the body of his wife and the grey body of a great orc.
Her hand upon her kitchen knife, the blade through the orc's black heart.
The orc's peculiar coat of white fur soaked in it's own blood.
He took the coat and his great axe.
He went to see the dwarves of Mount Stonedelving.
The dwarves, stout of stature and stout of heart, grieved with him.
Their king spoke. "That is the coat of an Ice Orc. If you seek vengeance, you must seek them far to the north."
He did indeed seek vengeance.
He went north.
To new-walled Aquilholm in the land of Narheim.
They grieved with him, and said "If you seek vengeance, find Magoran and go north of there."
He crossed the bitter Isvar Mountains.
He found steep-roofed Magoran, blanketed in the first snows of winter.
They mocked him. "You think this is north ? Find the Vrasijamelt Sea and keep going north of there."
He found the Sea, and other frozen lakes whose names he knew not.
He lived on what he could catch and on the sap of pine trees and on snow melted in his hands.
There was no-one to ask, so he went north of there.
He climbed the sheer Orvag Glacier, through he knew not it's name.
Finally he came to the uttermost north.
There, he saw a camp. At it's centre a great fire.
Before the fire a banner.
Around them both, a host of orcs.
He strode forth among them.
They spoke. "You wear our brother's coat of polar bear fur, yet you are not our brother. What do you here, Woodsman ?"
And he spoke. "I am not your brother. And none of you is my wife, yet your banner is made of my lost daughter's kirtle, and it is topped with her skull, still with her fair blond hair."
He had his vengeance, though none bore witness.
His axe cleaved the orc king's skull, and an orc spear through his heart sent him to join his wife in Valhalla.
That is a good brief saga ... and it ends the only way it can, logically ...good job!
Thank you ! I've been trying a few new styles recently, and I enjoyed writing this. When I started I wasn't quite sure what the ending would be, but once I was about halfway through it became obvious 😀

"I'm not your brother and non of you is my wife..." was a good response just before they got ended. Twas a good read 🙌
