The column of armoured men clattered down the narrow street between half-timbered buildings. At their head were mounted men at arms in full plate armour, brightly coloured heraldic pennants flapping in the warm air. They left the street and deployed into the field, taking the right flank. Behind them, men at arms on foot moved to form a solid block in the centre, and archers moved to the left.

Facing them was an equal-sized army waiting steadfastly in front of a camp full of brightly coloured tents.

The two armies advanced on each other, hundreds of men levelling weapons ready for the moment of impact.

Meanwhile, safe out of sight behind their blur-screens, two small figures watched with dismay.

Grey-127 turned to his mission commander, Grey-58 with a sombre look on his face.

"Sir, I think the mission briefing was wrong. This is supposed to be a level 4 culture, with nuclear fission, a move from hydrocarbons to renewable energy, flight and the start of space exploration."

His commander nodded, sadly. "Yes, 127, it seems they got it wrong. With all that armour, how are we ever going to insert the probes. Come on, let's get back to the ship and make our report."

Shortly after, their flying saucer rose silently into the air and departed. Their report suggested making contact again in another few hundred years.

An hour later, the battlefield was strewn with prone forms. The defeated Lancastrian Commander approached his Yorkist counterpart, helmet removed from a head drenched in sweat.

"Well Ted, I reckon this year's re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury was the best yet. Very realistic !"

"Certainly was, Harry. I reckon it'll take the lads a while to get back up and have a breather. Fancy a pint ? I hid my Prius behand that house over there, hop in, I'll give you a lift."
