Jim just had to pop into the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for his wife. He pulled up a few yards away; there was never any parking in town, the few spaces always seemed to be occupied by people who were going to be there all day.
So he just had to park in the street as close to the pharmacy as he could get.
When he emerged two minutes later, he couldn't see his car, just a space where it had been. His pace picked up, and when he reached the space, he saw with disbelief that all it contained was a pile of rust-coloured dust, steaming as the drizzle hit it.
That was when a police drone hovered into view.
"Facial recognition identifies you as the owner-slash-driver-slash-registered-keeper of the vehicle which was illegally parked in this space. In accordance with Bylaw 2049-12-06/Paragraph 206 subsection 58 your vehicle has been disintegrated. You have five minutes to totally remove the remains or a penalty will be automatically issued for public littering and obstructing the highway. This carries a penalty of ten food stamps and a reduction of 43 points in your social credit score. Have a nice day."
