Let us draw bugs day 1 -Trilobite beetle

These really cool beetles look like well, trilobites. They're in the Malyasian rainforest and are well, awesome. Heres somewehre to read more about em. https://www.discoverwildlife.com/animal-facts/insects-invertebrates/trilobite-beetle-guide

Before I get into the drawing and progress, I want to give a shout out to @nestodibuja for doing so many works of bug art already!

Check these out! They're so good!

Not sure why the gif is at the wrong orientation but whatever.

I didn't develop the drawing as much as I wanted because yesterday I was super tired.

I started with the shape, and funny little bumps these funky beetles have.

Having the gif is pretty neat. I used a website to turn the automatically made progress vid(mp4) from Procreate into a gif.

$1

From there I went in with the base colour. The actual beetle is back but I don't like doing straight black, esp digital. But it does get a very dark blue. I think the exporting process did make it very dark.

And it kinda disspears when I added the dark background.

But adding the orange kinda makes it stand out.

Then I added the highlights and did some blending to make the orange blend into the carapace.

Thank you, I am having so much fun. Since I started taking drawing more seriously I love doing challenges, I do every single one I find. And your challenge fascinates me because I really like insects. I didn’t know this insect you drew. And wow!! I love it!!! What program do you use to draw? I use Ibis Paint but it doesn’t let me save gif images, only videos, and they are super heavy. The gifs freeze when I try to save them. I love your drawing, I adore it, and the atmosphere is 1000 out of 1000.

I draw in a digital art program on the ipad called Procreate. I really like it.

It doens't do process gifs though, I used a website that can convert videos to gifs. It also has an option to export the process video as either a 30 second(socail media friendly) or full length which can be a monster of a file if I spent a long time on a drawing.

Thank you for the compliments. They do really encourage me to keep drawing :)

Yeah, I tried Procreate once on my friend’s iPad, but since I’m on Android it’s not an option for me haha. Still, I really love how that app feels.

It's why a friend of mine gave me an ipad. He let me play with it on his and I was sad when I had to stop. :)

Hahaha I know the feeling, I draw with Ibis Paint and a cheap stylus, you can do a lot, honestly it is more about wanting to draw than the tools, which tend to show up little by little along the way.

The thing I love about art is that you can do anything from drawing with a cheap bic pen and scarp paper to massively expensive paint on paper that's super expensive.

Wow, Ky, I love the texture in this drawing you have such a great way of building depth with those rich darks and then popping those scales with perfect highlights. This bug really came alive

Thank you so much Dinglehopper! I'm very much enjoying my challenge. Hardest part is picking the bug to draw cause there's just so many different kinds !
