Ukrainian charcoal in BBQ !!! Should I be worried of Chernobyl radioactivity?

avatar

It was meant to be the perfect evening, some meat ready to be put to the grill when a strange odor started to come from the bbq. Maybe it's the new flammable liquid? Let's wait... but no it lasts way too long. What could it be messing with this pleasurable moment?

After a systemic analysis of the components involved (meat, charcoal, flammable liquid) it was clearly coming from the charcoal. Looking carefully at the packaging, those pieces of burned woods were coming from Ukraine. What!!!!

Ukrainian charcoal, but this is madness, I told myself!!! It's not possible. But is it dangerous? Logically it should...

Sadly it was confirmed after a quick research on various website. Trees accumulate radioactivity, through little mushrooms along their roots and them directly. Then it binds to the fibers of the trees, one particle at a time during the whole life of the tree. And as you know Chernobyl was the second worst nuclear incident to date. Contaminating a very large area in central european continent and beyond. As you may remember, there were yuge fire in russia/ukraine a few years back and the risk of radioactivity release had been reported.

So now, it's clearly problematic, to know that Charcoal from Ukraine is being sold. What does it tell us about the state of the world?

Firstly that the retailers who are taking order from Ukrainian charcoal producers, are or very dumb, or totally merciless. Maybe they even get bribes to not think about this...They don't care about the health of their clients, they just seek to turn a short term profit.

I say short term, but why? because healthcare is socialized, as such by making people sick, and this charcoal will, are clearly raising the cost of healthcare for all, and then included.

Furthermore knowing the state of decay and corruption reining in ukraine, it's even possible and probable that this wood comes specifically from the highest contaminated area. Logically, those forests and those around, have until now be little harvested. But apparently, the consumption is pushing the industry in the last preserved but contaminated spots.

Thirdly, what is the police doing? I mean, it's way easier to fight the plant war (aka so called psychoactive component made by plants) than fighting a real case of endangering the health of the population.

And it asks the question, why aren't they looking by themselves on such issues? I mean, if I got hold of this charcoal, they too will...

Yes, of course I didn't expect the retailer in question to be honest, civil or simply respectful. This is sad too. But with the current state of moral decay, it can be a self governance issue, but one of law enforcement.

Finally, I bet, that this charcoal wasn't tested for radioactivity. Technically, and I am not a biological contamination nuclear export the cesium, should have vaporized (26 degree Celsius) during the manufacturing process, at least at the surface, but for all the other radio-active elements, it's highly probable they are still present in the charcoal, and will be present in the dust, and maybe even "smoke" the meat with their vapors.

It's of course an highly technical subject to know if it is safe or not. But why take the risk? the contaminated hashes and the rest of the package have been to the trash bin. Now it's in the wild... for years to come. Radioactivity and a corrupt paid for press, make a for a very mercky future on earth...

Be safe everyone, eyes open, vigilance and common sense.
